The Department of Physics is organising a research seminar on the topic “Probing Higgs Boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)” at 03.00 PM, January 07, 2026. The seminar will be delivered by Dr Gouranga Kole, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, National Taiwan, University and CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.
Abstract
Recent results on measurements related to the Higgs boson using proton–proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC will be presented. The seminar will begin with an overview of the object reconstruction techniques employed in the CMS experiment, providing essential context for the subsequent analyses. The main focus will be on Higgs boson decays into a top quark and a light quark within the framework of the two-Higgs-doublet model. In particular, the signal strengths and the corresponding upper limits on the production cross sections will be discussed, offering insights into Higgs–fermion interactions and possible signs of physics beyond the Standard Model. The seminar will conclude with a summary of the current status of charged Higgs boson searches at CMS.
