DESCRIPTION:The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering is organising an online Faculty Development Programme on Research Pedagogy and Supervisory Training from November 10\, 2025 to December 06\, 2025. \nThis FDP is designed to update educators and researchers on research pedagogy and supervisory training for science and technology from the fundamental and advanced levels. The guest lecture will feature Ms Areena Arora\, Data Journalist & Editorial Coder\, The Hindu and Mr Dhrumil Mehta is an Associate Professor of Journalism at Columbia University and the Assistant Director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. The primary objective of the lecture is to intersect data and storytelling by showcasing how data can be transformed into compelling narratives \nAbout the Speakers: \nMr Dhrumil Mehta:\nDhrumil Mehta is an Associate Professor of Journalism at Columbia University and the Assistant Director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. He teaches courses in Columbia’s three-semester Data Journalism M.S. program and is also a Visiting Associate Professor in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.\nPreviously\, Dhrumil was a Database Journalist at FiveThirtyEight\, where he built databases\, scrapers\, bots\, and interactive graphics alongside reporting and writing about elections\, public opinion and media. \nMs Areena Arora:\nMs Areena Arora holds a Master of Science in Data Journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University. Currently\, she is serving as an Editorial Coder at The Hindu in Chennai. Ms Areena previously worked as a Data & Investigative Journalist for the Knoxville News Sentinel\, where she won first place for education reporting in Tennessee in 2022.\nShe has also worked as Senior Sub-Editor at Glance and played a pivotal role in leading a global team of editors to present news to millions. She has also held positions at Reuters\, Idaho Press-Tribune\, and has taken on leadership roles in various university programmes\, including serving as Head Student Coordinator for Ohio Wesleyan University’s International Student Ambassador Programme. \nMs Areena’s cross-disciplinary skills in data journalism\, editorial judgment\, and a commitment to community engagement make her a prominent figure in the field of journalism.
