SUMMARY:From Clouds to Loops: Discovering Shape in Data
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Mathematics at SRM University-AP is organising an academic seminar titled “From Clouds to Loops: Discovering Shape in Data” focusing on Topological Data Analysis and Topological Machine Learning. Scheduled for Friday\, October 30\, 2026\, the session features Dr Priyavrat Deshpande from the Chennai Mathematical Institute as the expert resource person. \nThe presentation addresses geometric approaches to understanding complex\, high-dimensional datasets. Moving beyond standard statistical averages and linear correlations\, the talk examines how data collected from images\, motion tracking\, sports analytics\, biological systems\, and social interactions organise into structural shapes such as loops\, branches\, clusters\, and voids. Dr Priyavrat Deshpande introduces fundamental concepts in topological data analysis and topological machine learning through practical examples\, demonstrating how geometric analysis provides structural clarity without requiring mathematical preparation beyond elementary linear algebra and probability. \nKey Details \n\nDate: Friday\, October 30\, 2026\nTime: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM IST\nVenue: Tiered Classroom\, Level 5\, Administrative Block\, SRM University-AP\nResource Person: Dr Priyavrat Deshpande (Chennai Mathematical Institute)\n\n

SUMMARY:Invited Lecture - Indian Ontology\, Existence\, and the Contradictions of Land\, Domination\, and Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Sociology and Anthropology within the Easwari School of Liberal Arts at SRM University-AP is organising a departmental invited lecture titled “Indian Ontology\, Existence\, and the Contradictions of Land\, Domination\, and Sustainability”. Scheduled for October 30\, 2026\, the academic session features Prof. (Retd.) N Sudhakar Rao\, former Professor of Anthropology at the University of Hyderabad\, as the guest speaker. \nThe talk examines philosophical and sociological frameworks surrounding Indian ontology\, exploring how traditional conceptualisations of existence intersect with historical and contemporary struggles over land ownership\, power dynamics\, and environmental conservation. Drawing from extensive research on South Asian social systems\, power relations\, ideology\, and religion\, Prof. N Sudhakar Rao evaluates the tensions between developmental practices\, social inequality\, and ecological balance. \nKey Details \n\nDate: October 30\, 2026\nTime: 2:15 PM to 3:45 PM\nVenue: Tiered Classroom\, Level 5\, Homi J. Bhabha Block\, SRM University-AP\nResource Person: Prof. (Retd.) N Sudhakar Rao (Retired Professor of Anthropology\, University of Hyderabad)
