SUMMARY:India–UK AMR Network Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Biological Sciences is organising the India–UK AMR Network Meeting on January 21-23\, 2026\, along with University of Leeds\, representing a major step towards strengthening cross-country\, One Health–aligned AMR research. Funded by the Academy of Medical Sciences\, the India–UK AMR Network brings together leading researchers\, clinicians\, veterinarians\, and public health experts from India and the UK to build a collaborative network focused on understanding antimicrobial use and resistance in apparently healthy populations across India. \nSignificance of the Meeting \nAntimicrobial resistance is a critical global health challenge\, with community-level transmission increasingly recognised as a key driver. This meeting is significant in shifting the focus beyond clinical settings to healthy populations\, offering new insights into early AMR emergence and spread. By fostering long-term India–UK collaboration and embedding a One Health perspective\, the network aims to generate evidence that can inform national and international AMR strategies\, capacity building\, and equitable global health solutions. \nKey discussions will focus on:-\n– Antimicrobial use and resistance in community-based\, healthy populations\n– Integrating human\, animal\, and environmental perspectives (One Health approach)\n– Genomic and microbiome-based surveillance of AMR in low- and middle-income settings\n– Challenges and opportunities in longitudinal and population-scale AMR studies\n– Translating scientific evidence into public health policy and practice\n– Building sustainable India–UK research partnerships and infrastructure\n– Identifying additional areas for collaboration\, networking\, and capacity building across disciplines and institutions \nThe meeting features an interdisciplinary panel of invited experts from leading institutions across India and the UK\, including: \n-University of Leeds\, UK\n-Bose Institute and University of Burdwan\, West Bengal\n-IIT Kanpur\n-CSIR–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI)\, Nagpur\n-Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)\, Delhi\n-SRM University-AP and NTR College of Veterinary Science\n-Cancer Institute (WIA)\, Chennai\n-O.P. Jindal Global University \nSpeakers represent expertise spanning microbiology\, AMR genomics\, public health\, veterinary science\, environmental health\, and social medicine. \nExpected Outcomes \n\nEstablishment of a structured India–UK AMR research network\nIdentification of shared research priorities and funding opportunities\nDevelopment of collaborative pilot studies and multi-centre proposals\nKnowledge exchange on best practices for AMR surveillance in community settings\nStrengthened links between academic research\, public health\, and policies

SUMMARY:Indo-German Scientific Meeting to Strengthen Scientific Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Biological Sciences is organising a two-day Indo-German Scientific Meeting (2026) bringing together antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research experts from the Freie Universität Berlin\, and faculty members of the department. \nDay one will have a panel discussion that focuses to create awareness on the dimensions and precautionary steps needed to be taken to contain any microorganisms. Day two shifts the focus on strengthening Indo-German research collaboration\, promoting academic exchange\, and identifying opportunities for joint projects and international funding. By aligning complementary expertise and shared priorities\, the meeting aims to establish sustainable partnerships that advance AMR research and translate science into public health impact. \nProf. Thomas Alter\, Dean of Studies\, School of Veterinary Medicine\, Freie Universitaet Berlin\, Prof. Uwe Roesler\, Dean\, School of Veterinary Medicine\, Freie Universitaet Berlin\, Prof. Robert Klopfleisch from the Institute of Veterinary Pathology\, Dr Anika Friese from the Centre of Infectious Medicine\, Prof. Jayaseelan Murugaiyan\, Associate Dean together with the faculty members of the School of Engineering and Sciences (SEAS)\, SRM AP will attend this event.
