DESCRIPTION:The Department of Mechanical Engineering is organising an industrial visit to Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station on March 12\, 2025. Dr Chandan Kumar and Dr Manjesh Kumar\, faculty coordinators at the department\, will accompany the students during the visit. \nThe Industrial visit aims to provide the B.Tech and M.Tech students more hands-on experience and exposure while also allowing them to observe firsthand the sustainable methods used in the sector. \nStudents will be able to explore various operational aspects of the power plant\, including boiler operations\, turbine functioning\, coal handling and environmental management techniques. They also have the opportunity to directly interact and learn from the experts and observe practical demonstrations of the thermal plants’ functioning.

Mr Sekh Samim\, Deputy-Chief Architect\, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd\, India will deliver the guest session. \nTitle of the Talk: The Delhi Metro Story \nAbout the Speaker: \nMr Sekh Samim brings over 12 years of experience as a Transportation Architect\, specialising in Mass Rapid Transit System projects\, primarily with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. His expertise spans the design and execution of underground and elevated metro stations\, depots\, and auditoriums for projects like Delhi Metro Phase-III & IV\, Kochi Metro\, Jaipur Metro\, and Mumbai Metro. \nHe has played a key role in implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM) at Delhi Metro\, ensuring sustainability\, innovation\, and streamlined transit-oriented development. Currently\, he is leading the design and execution of property developments for more than 144 metro stations\, along with projects like the Automatic People Movers at Central Vista\, New Delhi\, and Multi-Modal Integration initiatives. \nMr Samim holds a B.Arch. from NIT Trichy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Metro Rail Technology and Management from IIT Delhi. The lecture will be delivered by seasoned management expert and strategist Mr Ajay Majumdar. \nAbout the Speaker: \nMr Ajay Majumdar is an accomplished industry leader and academic with extensive experience in Human Resource Management\, Industrial Engineering\, and Organisational Development. His career spans over three and half decades across leading corporations like Tata Motors\, Hindustan Motors\, Bata India\, and leading news & media conglomerate Anandabazar Group. Mr Majumdar holds a Master of Technology degree in Industrial Engineering & Management from the Indian Institute of Management\, Mumbai (formerly NITIE\, Mumbai). He has also worked as Visiting Faculty at leading Management institutes such as XLRI\, Jamshedpur\, Indian Institute of Social Welfare & Business Management (IISWBM)\, Kolkata\, Praxis Business School\, Kolkata and Calcutta Business School\, Kolkata. His specialisations include Operations Management\, HR\, Organizational Design\, Leadership\, and Compensation Strategy.
