SUMMARY:Department Distinguished Lecture - Theory of Metamaterials
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at SRM University-AP is organising a Department Distinguished Lecture titled “Theory of Metamaterials: Lorentz and Floquet Approaches in the Context of Double-Negative (DNG) Media”. The talk features Dr Arun K. Bhattacharyya\, Life Fellow of IEEE\, former Principal Scientist at Lockheed Martin Corporation (USA)\, and Visiting Professor at IIT Kanpur\, as the distinguished speaker. \nThe lecture explores two competing theoretical frameworks for understanding metamaterials—the Lorentz model and the Floquet eigenmodal analysis approach. While the Lorentz model suggests that perfect electric conducting (PEC) obstacles modify both permittivity and permeability tensors\, Floquet analysis demonstrates that only the permittivity tensor is affected\, raising fundamental questions about the possibility of achieving negative-permeability metamaterials using PEC obstacles. The session examines the source of inaccuracy in the Lorentz model\, discusses characteristic features of resonant and non-resonant metamaterials\, and scrutinises claims surrounding negative-refraction metamaterials in light of Maxwell’s equations. \nKey Details \n\nDate: Monday\, September 28\, 2026\nVenue: JC 411\, JC Bose Block\nTopic: Theory of Metamaterials: Lorentz and Floquet Approaches in the Context of Double-Negative (DNG) Media\nSpeaker: Dr Arun K. SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Role Of Brand Super-Efforts And Positive Emotions During Exogenous Brand Crisis: Macro-Meso-Micro Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Role Of Brand Super-Efforts And Positive Emotions During Exogenous Brand Crisis: Macro-Meso-Micro Perspective”. The session will feature Dr Kalpana Chandrasekar\, former Assistant Professor of Marketing and UGC NET-JRF qualified scholar\, as the expert speaker. \nDr Chandrasekar holds a PhD in Marketing from IIT Madras\, where her research received the Best Research Thesis in Marketing (Sri N Kannan Prize 2024). An alumnus of IIM Tiruchirappalli and recipient of the Director’s Gold Medal\, she combines five years of IT industry experience with research on brand crisis\, crisis communication\, and consumer behaviour published in top management journals. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in marketing management\, brand strategy\, crisis communication\, and consumer behaviour. \nAbstract \nBrand management research investigating external crisis threats (e.g.\, natural\, health\, economic crises) that are not due to brand actions or associations\, are found to be sparse with little progress. Anchoring on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory\, this study aims to investigate the impact of exogenous brand crises (EBC) and brand’s responses on the affective and behavioural changes of consumers. \nFirstly\, the extensive EBC types are catalogued\, and a typology is developed (Study 1) through review of extant literature and secondary data analysis. Exploratory studies – RGT based interviews (Study 2) and collage construction (Study 3) were conducted to identify the most significant EBC and the key constructs that impact consumer purchase decisions. Based on the findings\, a multi-level approach is adapted across pervasive and localised EBC impact. Consequent quantitative studies (Study 4-6) investigated the interrelation between – brand’s ‘super-efforts’ at macro level\, community members’ brand evangelism at meso level\, their impact on consumer attitude and purchase intention at micro level. Research findings provide a comprehensive approach towards EBC management that will enable brand managers to effectively navigate through the challenges and seize the opportunities posed by the EBC. \nKey Details \n\nDate: September 30\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: Level 5\, Tiered Classroom\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: Role Of Brand Super-Efforts And Positive Emotions During Exogenous Brand Crisis: Macro-Meso-Micro Perspective\nSpeaker: Dr Kalpana Chandrasekar (Former Assistant Professor of Marketing; PhD\, IIT Madras)

SUMMARY:Beyond Startups: The Many Paths to Entrepreneurial Success
DESCRIPTION:The Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation\, SRM University-AP\, is organising an interactive session with Prof. Soumitra Dutta\, CREATOR OF THE GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX & NETWORK READINESS INDEX on October 13\, 2026\, at Auditorium-Xlab. Entrepreneurship is often defined solely by the launch of a new company. Yet\, reducing it to the singular act of starting a business overlooks a profound truth: the entrepreneurial spirit is fundamentally a way of thinking. It is the capacity to identify opportunities\, navigate uncertainty\, and build meaningful value in any environment. This is the core theme driving the interactive session. \nThe starting point is the recognition of a critical gap: the perception that entrepreneurial ambition belongs only to tech founders and startups. The responsibility today is to broaden that definition. The pathways to entrepreneurial success are vast and varied. They run through existing corporate structures\, social ventures\, academic ecosystems\,\nand global institutions. True innovation thrives wherever there is a drive to solve problems and the resilience to transform an idea into reality. \nOn 13 October\, the conversation will shift from the mechanics of starting up to the mindset required for long-term impact. Engaging with Prof. Dutta offers students a vital opportunity to look beyond local horizons\, challenge their assumptions\, and align their ambitions with global benchmarks. The session will focus on the enduring principles of\ncritical thinking\, value generation\, and strategic vision rather than the surface glamour of venture creation. \nUltimately\, success in a rapidly changing world belongs to those who view their education as a toolkit for continuous reinvention. This session is an open invitation for the student community to reframe their future\, embrace non-traditional career paths\, and turn intellectual curiosity into purposeful\, lifelong leadership.
