SUMMARY:Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS) Webinar-42
DESCRIPTION:The Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS) Global Centre at SRM University-AP\, Amaravati\, is organising a Webinar titled “AI-Driven Computational Materials Science: Integrating First-Principles Simulations\, HPC\, and Materials Informatics”. The talk will be delivered by Prof. Kenta Hongo\, Professor at the Center for Advanced Scientific Computing (CASC)\, JAIST. \nThe presentation reviews the evolution of computational materials research from conventional density functional theory (DFT) calculations to AI-assisted materials discovery. Topics include Bayesian optimisation\, computational discovery of superconducting hydrides\, mixed-anion compounds\, high-entropy alloys\, polymer informatics\, machine-learning-assisted design of functional materials\, the ChemAutoVision AutoML framework\, and JAIST’s newly deployed HAKUSAN supercomputer. \nAbstract \nArtificial intelligence (Al) is rapidly transforming computational materials science by enabling the seamless integration of first-principles simulations\, high-performance computing (HPC)\, and data-driven materials informatics. This talk reviews the evolution of computational materials research from conventional density functional theory (DFT) calculations toward modern Al-assisted materials discovery and discusses future perspectives for Al-driven scientific research. Recent advances at JAIST include Bayesian optimization for efficient materials exploration\, computational discovery of superconducting hydrides\, mixed-anion compounds\, and high-entropy alloys\, polymer informatics for high-thermal-conductivity materials\, and machine-learning-assisted design of functional materials. I will also introduce our recent development of ChemAutoVision\, an AutoML framework for molecular property prediction from two-dimensional chemical structure images\, demonstrating how Al can lower the barrier to applying machine learning in chemistry and materials science. The talk will also introduce the newly deployed HAKUSAN supercomputer at JAIST and discuss its role in supporting large-scale first-principles simulations\, Al-assisted scientific computing\, and education of the next generation of computational materials scientists. \nKey Details \n\nDate: August 24\, 2026\nTime: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM (IST)\nTopic: AI-Driven Computational Materials Science: Integrating First-Principles Simulations\, HPC\, and Materials Informatics\nSpeaker: Prof. Kenta Hongo (Professor at the Center for Advanced Scientific Computing – CASC\, JAIST)\nOrganiser: Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS) Global Centre\, SRM University-AP\, Amaravati

SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Sustainable Investment: Maintaining Portfolio Performance While Reducing The Carbon Footprint
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Sustainable Investment: Maintaining Portfolio Performance While Reducing The Carbon Footprint”. The session will feature Rituparna Sen\, Associate Professor in the Applied Statistics Division at the Indian Statistical Institute\, Bangalore\, as the expert speaker. \nRituparna Sen holds a PhD in statistics from the University of Chicago and is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. She has authored over thirty research papers and a book titled Computational Finance with R\, served as an editor for leading statistical journals\, and received multiple prestigious accolades\, including the Young Statistical Scientist Award. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in sustainable finance\, computational statistics\, portfolio management\, and climate-aligned investment strategies. \nAbstract \nAmid the global crisis of climate change\, urgent action is imperative. In this study\, we develop two types of decarbonized indices\, which render a dynamic hedging approach for passive investors. Focusing on long-term returns with minimal active trading and risk exposure\, we create the decarbonized indices for NIFTY-50\, a benchmark index for the Indian market. Proposed methodology relies on suitable optimization techniques to choose the portfolio weights that minimize the tracking error while significantly reducing carbon footprints. These indices are shown to perform better than existing benchmarks\, especially during major climate events. In ongoing work\, we use tail risk measures instead of variance to control the risk of the portfolio. \nKey Details \n\nDate: September 9\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: Level 5\, Tiered Classroom\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: Sustainable Investment: Maintaining Portfolio Performance While Reducing The Carbon Footprint\nSpeaker: Rituparna Sen (Associate Professor\, Applied Statistics Division\, Indian Statistical Institute\, Bangalore)

SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Deeper Agreements\, Policy Uncertainty\, And Cross-Border Services Expansion
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Deeper Agreements\, Policy Uncertainty\, And Cross-Border Services Expansion”. The session will feature Dr Banantika Datta\, Assistant Professor at Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM)\, Bengaluru\, and Visiting Professor at IIM Amritsar\, as the expert speaker. \nDr Datta holds a PhD in Economics from IIM Bangalore and is an economist specialising in international trade\, services trade\, labour mobility\, and development economics. She has extensive experience across academia and industry\, having conducted research projects with the World Health Organization (WHO) and worked in risk management at Deloitte. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in international trade\, economic policy\, global services markets\, and development economics. \nAbstract \nThis paper examines how services provisions within trade agreements shape services trade expansion and explores the mechanisms causing this impact. While the existing literature in international business and trade establishes that agreements increase trade\, limited attention has been paid to how deeper agreements affect the global services markets. This paper argues that service provisions within trade agreements enhance service exports by moderating trade uncertainty between trading partners\, thereby enhancing the institutional environment within which firms operate. Unlike goods trade\, services trade is highly regulation-intensive\, contract-dependent\, and sensitive to policy reversals. Consequently\, uncertainty surrounding market access\, transaction costs\, regulatory recognition\, and dispute settlement mechanisms can significantly deter cross-border expansion by service providers. Increasingly\, goods trade is supported by several services\, which can result in higher exports of enabling and supporting services. Therefore\, the paper examines the impact of service provisions within trade agreements by accounting for the volume of goods trade. The findings confirm that service provisions in trade agreements significantly enhance bilateral services exports\, even after accounting for goods trade\, advocating the need for deeper trade agreements with substantial commitments\, strengthening institutional credibility between partner countries. \nKey Details \n\nDate: September 16\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: C402\, C. SUMMARY:University Distinguished Lecture - From Curiosity to Discovery — The Power of Scientific Inquiry
DESCRIPTION:SRM University-AP is hosting University Distinguished Lecture #26\, titled “From Curiosity to Discovery — The Power of Scientific Inquiry”. The session will feature Prof. Anantanarayanan Raman\, Senior Scientist (Health & Biosecurity) at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)\, Floreat Park Campus\, Perth\, Australia\, as the distinguished speaker. \nThe lecture is designed to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in scientific methodologies\, research innovation\, and the evolution of systematic inquiry. \nAbstract \nScientific inquiry’s strength and power lie in it being systematic and in the intellectual capacity to transform curiosity into a sound corpus of knowledge through observation\, testing\, and continuous iteration. This process energises efforts to distinguish fact from assumption\, solve intricate problems and convoluted challenges\, and shift towards ‘truth’ — the ‘scientific truth’. Greater clarity emerges because of newly accrued evidence. Scientific inquiry replaces conjectures with substantiations\, empowering us with a brilliant rational power to explain how the biophysical world operates and to arrive at reasoned conclusions. \nIn this presentation\, Prof. Raman will touch on the two key drivers of science — curiosity (the spark) and discovery (the fire). He will refer to two pivotal points of scientific inquiry: ‘logic’ and ‘epistemic openness’\, concluding with an analysis of how scientific inquiry has evolved and adapted under the post-modern era of globalisation. \nKey Details \n\nDate: Tuesday\, September 22\, 2026\nTime: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM\nVenue: ALC-1\, 3rd Floor\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: From Curiosity to Discovery — The Power of Scientific Inquiry\nSpeaker: Prof. Anantanarayanan Raman (Senior Scientist\, Health & Biosecurity\, CSIRO\, Perth\, Australia
