DESCRIPTION:The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering is organising an expert guest lecture titled “Valorization of Lignin and Nanolignin for Various Applications\,” presented by Prof. Widya Fatriasari from the Research Center for Biomass and Bioproducts at BRIN\, Bioproducts-Based Polyphenol Research Group. This lecture is intended for students and scholars and will enable students to gain insights into the latest research and applications of lignin and nanolignin\, enhancing their understanding of sustainable materials and their potential uses in various industries. \nAbout the Resource Person: \nDr Widya Fatriasari is a distinguished professor at the Research Center for Biomass and Bioproducts\, BRIN\, Indonesia. With a strong focus on the valorization of natural fibers\, lignin\, and cellulose for bioproducts\, Dr Widya Fatriasari has made significant contributions to the field of biomass conversion. Having published over 220 research papers\, including works in national and internationally recognised Scopus and SCI indexed journals\, Dr Widya Fatriasari is an esteemed figure in academic research. She holds 45 registered patents\, with 2 patents granted and 1 license. Her expertise encompasses various facets of biomass\, including hydrolysis\, fungal applications\, and lignin and lignocellulosic conversion\, making them a valuable partner for innovative research initiatives.

SUMMARY:Field Visit for Environmental Awareness
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering organised a field visit for first-year odd semester students as a part of their Environmental Science course (VAC-101) from October 16-20\, 2023 around the vicinity of SRM University-AP campus. The students were made aware of the surrounding land-uses\, their biodiversity\, impacts and importance to the environment. Observations were made on different threats like pollution\, plant invasion\, fertilizer run-off\, etc. and the students were explained what can be done as an individual and as a community to protect our resources. Practical know-hows on vegetation and water sampling were also demonstrated by different faculty members. The students returned with a heightened sense of stewardship towards environmental protection.
