The Directorate of International Relations and Higher Studies is organising the US delegate visit on February 20\, 2022. Mr Mark Forehand\, Senior Assistant Dean for Graduate Enrollment; Dr Benjamin Klein\, Professor and Chair\, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; and Dr Sumit Chakravarty\, Associate Professor\, Department of Electrical Engineering from the Kennesaw State University\, USA are the honorary delegates visiting the campus. The session aims to certify an interactive and insightful exchange between the visiting delegates and the students and faculty of the institution. \nAbout the Delegates \nMr Mark Forehand is the Senior Assistant Dean for Graduate Enrollment Management\, The Graduate College – Kennesaw State University\, USA. A proactive leader\, Mr. Mark Forehand is a results-focused professional with cross speciality strengths in Education\, Leadership and Analysis. Prior to his current role\, Mr Forehand served as the Assistant Dean in the Graduate College\, Director of International Student and Scholar Services\, Interim Director of the IEP\, and Director of Academic English Programs in the Division of Global Affairs. He also serves as an Interim Executive Director for the Siegel Institute. His expertise lies in being proficient in leveraging processing and workflow knowledge to promote growth regardless of the industry. Mr Forehand is adept at managing concurrent objectives to promote efficiency and influence positive outcomes. \nDr Benjamin Klein is the Professor and Chair\, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering\, Kennesaw State University\, Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. A renowned academician and researcher\, Dr Klein received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois with his doctoral dissertation on the theory and modelling of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs. Dr Klein’s research interests involve the theory\, modelling\, and design of semiconductor electronic and optoelectronic materials and devices. He creates and utilizes numerical simulation programs to provide insight into the nano-scale physics of semiconductors. His most recent project is the modelling of multilayered III nitride samples in atom probe tomography (APT) measurement systems to assist in interpreting the measurement data. \nDr Sumit Chakravarty currently works as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Kennesaw State University Lawrenceville\, Georgia\, United States. His area of expertise is in Wireless Communications\, AI and Signal Processing and has worked as a scientist in the industry wherein he has also worked on other sensor modalities commonly used in remote sensing like Multispectral\, Lidar and SAR. This includes working with a cross-disciplinary team comprising specialists from industry\, government bodies like NASA\, Goddard and academia like the University of Maryland. His other industrial experience in engineering and research includes working in various roles such as Instrumentation Engineer for Triune Projects\, Research Intern at Siemens CAD and Apex Eclipse Communications\, Scientist for SGT Inc and Lead Scientist for Honeywell Research (Automatic Control Solutions-Advanced Technology Labs). \nJoin the talk for a productive exploration of opportunities abroad for upskilling your academic and research prowess!

DESCRIPTION:Chinese culture is more than 5000 years old. Chinese is one of the oldest and richest languages in the world. The only modern pictographic language\, Mandarin Chinese\, is spoken in almost 13 countries\, and about 909 million people use it as their first language. \nThe Directorate of International Relations and Higher Studies is organising a workshop\, Hello Taiwan! 你好臺灣 – Learning Mandarin Chinese and Beyond to connect students with Taiwan and to promote the benefits of learning Mandarin Chinese language. The workshop’s objective is to encourage students to enrol in the Mandarin Chinese Language course as an open elective subject for the upcoming semester. It will introduce the Taiwan Education Center (TEC) on campus\, and the courses offered to undergraduates. \nLearning a new language is not narrowed to a mere alphabet but is broad enough to dive into the culture\, history\, politics\, arts\, literature\, and many more characteristics that the language is comprised of. Besides this\, learning Mandarin Chinese language can cause significant wonders in one’s career. Companies worldwide prefer aspirants who are bilingual or multilingual in the present day. Many corporations trading with China or having offices in China are looking for people who speak Mandarin. There are tremendous employment opportunities as native speakers who are also Mandarin Chinese speakers are pretty rare. \nAbout the speakers \nMs HsinYi Huang is from Taiwan and working as a Mandarin Chinese Instructor of TEC at SRM University – AP. She will enlighten the students about the centre and the courses. Dr JP Raja Pandiyan\, Assistant Professor of the Department of Chemistry\, will share his precious experience of pursuing his higher education in Taiwan. SUMMARY:Kondapalli toys; the geographical indication handicrafts of Andhra Pradesh
DESCRIPTION:The legacy of India’s craft culture always occupies a special spot owing to its beauty\, dignity\, form\, style\, and aesthetics. India is traditionally known for its rural village and wooden cottage Industries. Among them\, Andhra Pradesh has glorious rural artisan handmade traditions in toys. The office of International Relations and Higher Studies conducted a workshop on August 16\, 2022\, to promote and celebrate the dignity of Kondapalli Toys. These toys are one of the geographical indication handicrafts from Andhra Pradesh. \nThe workshop belongs to the series of sessions organised as part of Aadigyan\, the social leadership programme. Mr Durga Prasad\, a traditional Kondapalli artisan of Andhra Pradesh\, handled the workshop for two hours. He demonstrated the process of crafting the toys and explained their history. Various tools used for wood carving\, division of labor among male and female artisans\, social implications of the toys\, etc.\, were discussed in this interactive session. Volunteered students also learned some wood carving basics from the artisan himself. \nThe rural industry holds a share of ten percent in the decentralised sector. The handicrafts industry is one of the major sectors that offer employment opportunities to a larger number of individuals. Yet the 400 years old industry is not getting the attention it deserves due to a lack of promotion and awareness. Sandeep Samala\, the programme coordinator\, highlighted the need for spreading the heritage of Kondapalli toys among the younger generation. He also explained how the industry could be approached from a startup’s perspective to amplify the toys’ promotion.

DESCRIPTION:International collaborations have always played a significant part in locating the majesty of SRM university-AP in the education sector. The Office of International Relations and Higher Studies is hosting the US delegate visit on July 12\, 2022\, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. The visit intends a productive interaction between the visiting delegates and the institution’s faculty. Mr Kumar Yelamarthi and Mr Vijay Devabhaktuni are dignified guests who will grace the occasion with their valuable presence. The interaction will be happing in the Board room of the university and will offer the students an opportunity to interconnect with the delegates. \nAbout the delegates \nMr Kumar Yelamarthi is the Associate Dean and Professor at the College of Engineering at TTU. He has over 15 years of research experience in embedded system\, mobile robotics\, and integrated circuit design. He also has more than ten years of experience in the areas of nanoscale integrated circuit design\, CAD tool development\, design automation\, etc. More than 150 articles of his have been published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He taught a diverse range of classes from freshman through graduate PhD levels on various topics. He has introduced several new classes into the undergraduate curriculum for computer or electrical engineering technology majors. \nMr Vijay Devabhaktuni received his PhD from Carleton University\, Canada\, with a senate medal. Between 2005 and 2008\, he held the prestigious Canada Research Chair at Concordia University\, Canada. After serving the University of Toledo between 2008 and 2018 in academic and research leadership roles\, he served Purdue University Northwest as ECE Chair between 2018 and 2021. Currently\, he is the Department Chair and Norman Stetson Professor of ECE at the University of Maine. His vision is to transform traditional course-based learning into experiential-based and soft skill-based learning for GenZ students.

SUMMARY:MSc in Advanced Heat Engineering at Cranfield University
DESCRIPTION:The heat and power industry is undergoing a major transformation\, and multinational enterprises must adapt to satisfy ever-increasing present and future demands. The Office of International Relations and Higher Studies at SRM University-AP is organising a lecture titled “MSc in Advanced Heat Engineering at Cranfield University” to educate the students about the importance\, scope and opportunities of the field. Dr Kumar Patchigolla\, Course Director at Cranfield University will illuminate the participants on the topic on April 13\, 2022\, at 03.30 pm. \nAll are invited to participate in the lecture organised as a part of the International Lecture Series. \nDr Patchigolla joined Cranfield University in 2009 as Lecturer in 2012\, Senior Lecturer in 2017 and Reader in 2020. During this period he is involved in the demonstration of low-temperature heat storage (rock bed)\, thermal driven absorption chiller (Li-Br)\, combustion (fluidized\, pulverized)\, gasification (fixed\, fluidized)\, the capture of CO2 (Chemical/Calcium looping) and CO2 pipeline and shipping transport facilities\, evaluating the effects on component durability and gas cleaning requirements of systems using a wide range of solid fuels. These include biomasses\, waste and sewage sludge as well as coal either alone or in different co-fired combinations and supervision of research activities using the Pilot Scale Advanced Capture (PACT) facilities.

SUMMARY:Nanoparticles as drug delivery systems - what can cell biology tell us?
DESCRIPTION:Guest lectures are a great opportunity for students to learn what the rest of the world thinks/researches. As a part of the International Lecture Series\, The Office of International Relations and Higher Studies invites Prof Jeremy Simpson from University College\, Dublin to engage the students on the topic “Nanoparticles as drug delivery systems – what can cell biology tell us?” \nNanotechnology advancements have resulted in the creation of related fields such as nanoparticle synthesis and biomedical applications. Patients and doctors alike have been given hope by nanotechnology-driven advancements in treating complicated medical problems. \nJoin this informative lecture on April 08\, 2022\, at 3.00 pm and get enlightened! \nJeremy Simpson carried out his PhD work at the University of Warwick (UK)\, working on the trafficking of protein toxins in mammalian cells under the supervision of Profs. Mike Lord and Lynne Roberts. After post-doctoral work at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego (USA) in the lab of Dr Bill Balch and the ICRF in London (UK) in the lab of Dr Rainer Pepperkok\, he was awarded a long term EMBO fellowship allowing him to move to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg (Germany). For over 9 years he worked at EMBL developing and applying novel high-throughput imaging approaches to study protein localisation and membrane traffic. In 2008 he was appointed as Full Professor of Cell Biology at University College Dublin\, Ireland. His lab currently applies high-throughput imaging technologies to study various membrane trafficking pathways in the cell\, a number of human diseases associated with defects in the endomembrane system\, and the molecular basis of how synthetic nanoparticles enter cells and induce toxicity. His lab also has expertise in the growth and analysis of 3D cell models\, including spheroids and organoids\, and their imaging and analysis using high-content screening microscopy. His lab also develops novel software tools and approaches for image analysis. He has authored 120 peer-reviewed articles\, including articles in Nature Cell Biology and Nature Methods\, and a number of book chapters. He is a Fellow of the UCD Conway Institute and runs the UCD Cell Screening Laboratory (www.ucd.ie/hcs). Additional academic roles within UCD have included Head of Subject for the Cell and Molecular Biology Programme\, Head of the School of Biology and Environmental Science\, and Vice-Principal (International) of the UCD College of Science. In September 2021 he took up the role of College Principal and Dean of Science for the UCD College of Science.
