SUMMARY:The Newsmaker: Ms Sreelekha Bhuvaneswari
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Students’ Affairs at SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh is all set to feature the brilliant Ms Sreelekha Bhuvaneswari in the upcoming segment of “The Newsmakers” scheduled on July 10\, 2021\, at 5.30 pm. Ms Sreelekha is a BSc physics final year student who brought laurel to the university by filing a patent for her work titled “A fibre material with moisture retention capacity with thermal tolerance and a method for manufacture” under the guidance of Dr Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics\, SRM University-AP. \nThe project\, with the patent application number 202141023375\, develops a methodology to design a fabric cloth that would replace the use of air conditioners. This cloth design is inspired by Saharan silver ants which regulate their body temperatures in the scorching desert heat and also from the cooling properties of clay. This research would significantly scale down the usage of AC and other cooling devices in warm places\, thus reducing the use of electricity and emission of greenhouse gases to the environment. As this cloth would be environment friendly with long durability and cost-efficiency\, Sreelekha hopes that this research would bridge the socioeconomic divide of haves and have-nots between communities. \n“The Newsmakers” session on July 10\, 2021\, at 5.30 pm will feature Ms Sreelekha narrate her inspiring journey which started with the incredible experience at SRM University-AP that eventually enabled her to be an inventor at a young age.

SUMMARY:Reimagine\, Recreate\, Restore: World Environment Day Quiz
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable development that curbs pollution and thus prevents the extinction of species from the surface of the earth is the urgent need of the hour. The United Nations Assembly established World Environment Day in 1972 to fundamentally raise awareness among people about the importance of ecosystem preservation. Since then\, World Environment Day is observed on June 5 annually with eco-sensitive themes to remind individuals and organisations about their duties and responsibilities towards the gift of nature. \nThis year’s theme: ‘Reimagine.Recreate.Restore.’ marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The Department of Student Affairs\, SRM University-AP is organizing a Quiz Programme for the students on June 5\, 2021\, at 7:00 pm to ensure commitment to the earth’s reviving mission\, as a green and sustainable university. \n“Nature is healing” is a misleading message that has been circulated in the digital world during these Covid-19 pandemic days when human activities are shut down around the world. It is not just a year or a decade since humans have started exploiting\, looting\, and destroying the wildlife\, coral reefs\, deserts\, mountains and more. Let us be a generation that reimagines creative ways to restore our natural resources. \nAll are welcome!

SUMMARY:An intriguing two-day session on "Flourishing through stress" with Aayushi Sharma
DESCRIPTION:Amid Covid-19\, when we see high rates of mental duress and a substantial rise in the cases struggling with health concerns\, an initiative in the form of discussion is highly obliging. The Department of Student Affairs of the SRM University-AP came forward with an imperative step to hold a two-day webinar on “Flourishing through Stress” with Aayushi Sharma\, Student Counsellor\, SRM University-AP on April 24 and 25\, 2021\, from 4 pm to 5 pm. \nMental health and well-being go parallelly\, and both interrelate for a healthy livelihood. Everybody caught up in the web of stress\, anxiety\, and mental issues necessitate counselling to escape through it. With the advent of social media and pop culture narrative\, people are open to conversations related to mental health concerns. Youths are the future for a healthier society\, laden with a responsibility to understand the mechanism of a complex world. Therefore\, a general discussion on self-care and mental health awareness is an effective coping strategy for improving quality of life. \nThere is very little information disseminated on mental health which led to confusion among people. Individuals often confuse the term mental illness with mental health conversation as there is a profound absence of awareness. Meanwhile\, no one confuses a common cold or headache as these illnesses happen on a broad spectrum. \nMore actions are needed to spread awareness on the spectrum of mental health\, especially the common ones such as loneliness and depression\, so that an individual can realize these issues and seek medical help or therapy. \nParticipate in the zoom webinar on April 24 and 25\, 2021\, at 4 pm to get detailed information on mental health and related topics.

SUMMARY:Resonating Ideology: Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur re-evaluating Bose in the present era
DESCRIPTION:Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is nationwide revered as a legendary figure of the Indian National Movement. A study of his biography unfolds his unflagging zeal\, as a leader and motivator. His social\, economic\, and political concepts were formulated with the sole objective of India’s emancipation from the British rule of exploitation and oppression. He also thought about the reconstruction of Free India. \nAccording to Subhas Chandra Bose\, education was essential for character building and overall development of human life. Education unveils the internal discipline of mind and thoughts\, which in its turn produces external discipline of control of action or deeds. \nHe understood the need for female education and female emancipation- liberating from all shackles and artificial disabilities – social\, economic and political. Netaji Subhas Chandra was completely against of any discrimination on the grounds of caste\, race\, sex\, creed or wealth in Free India. \nHis addresses at the Indian National Congress bears Subhas Chandra’s ideas on a comprehensive reconstruction of Free India. Bose wanted the states to adopt an elaborate scheme for gradually socialising the entire agricultural and industrial system in the spheres of both production and distribution. He also advocated the abolition of landlordism and liquidation of agricultural indebtedness. According to Netaji\, liberty broadly signified political\, economic and social freedom. For him\, economic freedom was the essence of social and political freedom. \nHowever\, if we look at today’s India and the happenings\, can we claim for sure that we have imbibed the great leader’s vision in its true essence? We are free constitutionally\, but are we really free at all? Is this the freedom our great freedom fighters like Bose envisioned for us? \nDepartment of Student Affairs is organising a webinar on the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to honour and recall his beliefs on freedom and Nation. Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur will be talking on “Am I Free? Re-Contextualising Subhas Chandra Bose in the Present Era.” Dr Thakur is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English. Join the webinar on January 23 at 5 pm with Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur\, who will be shedding some light on this much-debated topic.
