DESCRIPTION:G Ram Dheeraj\, 2nd year\, Civil Engineering\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh voyaged to the summit of “Shetidhar Peak(5358mts)” and “Friendship Peak (5287mts)” prior to his recent successful trek to the “Deo Tibba Peak (6001mts)\, Manali\, Himachal Pradesh”. DeoTibba is the second highest peak of the PirPanjal Mountains. Basking in the meadows\, and glaciers\, Dheeraj reached the mountain peak – an exceptional snow dome with a magnificent view. \nA trek enthusiast\, Dheeraj fancied adventure\, mountaineering\, seeing places\, and embracing the serenity of nature. Bending barriers\, he climbed the peak only to marvel at the picturesque view. He rejoiced being at a place traversed by a few. On April 3\, 2021\, at 4 PM\, Department of Student Affairs\, SRM University-AP invited Dheeraj to recount the thrilling tales of his expeditions. In the interactive session – “Newsmakers”\, he will also share insights on his fitness regime\, along with giving the audience a glimpse of his future trekking plans.

The discomfort spurts in several forms among individuals across spheres. Examination nerves\, worry\, or fear of failure are common for even the most talented student. Though varying intensity of stress is perhaps experienced among learners before and during exams\, it impairs learning and adversely affects performance in examinations. \nAnxiety disorders are prevalent and impact about 18 percent of adults. An estimated 25 percent of 13-18-year-olds experience anxiety. However\, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA)\, only one-third of people suffering from angst seek treatment. Untreated childhood anxiety can trigger poor performance in all walks of life. DESCRIPTION:Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is nationwide revered as a legendary figure of the Indian National Movement. A study of his biography unfolds his unflagging zeal\, as a leader and motivator. His social\, economic\, and political concepts were formulated with the sole objective of India’s emancipation from the British rule of exploitation and oppression. He also thought about the reconstruction of Free India. \nAccording to Subhas Chandra Bose\, education was essential for character building and overall development of human life. Education unveils the internal discipline of mind and thoughts\, which in its turn produces external discipline of control of action or deeds. \nHe understood the need for female education and female emancipation- liberating from all shackles and artificial disabilities – social\, economic and political. Netaji Subhas Chandra was completely against of any discrimination on the grounds of caste\, race\, sex\, creed or wealth in Free India. \nHis addresses at the Indian National Congress bears Subhas Chandra’s ideas on a comprehensive reconstruction of Free India. Bose wanted the states to adopt an elaborate scheme for gradually socialising the entire agricultural and industrial system in the spheres of both production and distribution. He also advocated the abolition of landlordism and liquidation of agricultural indebtedness. According to Netaji\, liberty broadly signified political\, economic and social freedom. For him\, economic freedom was the essence of social and political freedom. \nHowever\, if we look at today’s India and the happenings\, can we claim for sure that we have imbibed the great leader’s vision in its true essence? We are free constitutionally\, but are we really free at all? Is this the freedom our great freedom fighters like Bose envisioned for us? \nDepartment of Student Affairs is organising a webinar on the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to honour and recall his beliefs on freedom and Nation. Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur will be talking on “Am I Free? Re-Contextualising Subhas Chandra Bose in the Present Era.” Dr Thakur is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English. During this contest\, the participants will be remembering the remarkable contributions of Swami Vivekananda by reciting at least 20 lines of any poem written by the icon. In addition\, the contestants are encouraged to encapsulate the poem in a few words for a clear depiction of the intriguing message presented by Swami Ji. The winner of the competition will receive goodies worth Rs 750 and the runner up will be awarded the second prize comprising of gifts worth Rs 500. DESCRIPTION:Department of Student Affairs\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh organizes yet another chapter of Newsmakers. On November 21\, 2020\, at 5 PM\, Sourav Sanyal\, Miran Junaidi\, and Saurabh Ghanekar\, 4th year\, Department of Computer Science and Engineering will be narrating their tale of forming a start-up named oureye.ai. The young entrepreneurs developed an automated\, end-to-end video intelligence solution for enterprises to monitor surveillance camera recordings\, leveraging pre-existing CCTV-IP infrastructure. \nThe three brilliant students grabbed the opportunities provided by SRM AP and became an active member of the student-run technological club of SRM AP\, Next Tech Lab. Further\, they spent a semester at the University of California\, Berkeley as part of the Semester Abroad Programme to broaden their horizon of knowledge. Encouraged by the mentors and faculty\, the students participated in several international conferences and hackathons which kindled their interest in developing a platform that would provide practical solutions to real-life problems. \nDuring the session\, the students will share insights regarding their start-up. Also\, they will narrate the inspiring journey that commenced with their erudite experience at SRM AP\, which eventually enabled them to become young entrepreneurs. Their company generated a revenue of Rs. 1.7 million in the recent financial year.

An open challenge is given to the students to visualise their dream car and share it with the judges and the spectators. The competition is divided into three categories:\n1. Sketch of your dream car.\n2. Write up on your dream car.\n3. Model of your dream car.\n \nAll the students from the first year to the fourth year can participate in the contest. They can project their dream car using a designing software or simple on paper. Moreover\, if someone has a flair for writing\, they are most welcome to express it through the medium of 100-150 finely crafted words. \nAs William Blake said\,” What is now proved was only imagined”. Celebrated IPL and Ranji Trophy player\, Mr Kalyana Krishna Doddapaneni\, will deliver a special talk to inspire and motivate students on August 29\, 2021\, at 05.00 pm. \nMr Doddapaneni played in the Indian Premier League during the years of 2008-09 for the Deccan Chargers team. Prior to that\, he played in the Andhra Ranji Cricket Team for 10 years and bagged 200+ first-class wickets. He has also played in vital tournaments such a Duleep and Deodhar Trophies. Mr Doddapaneni is currently working as a leading commentator for Start Sports. He is also the chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee\, Andhra Cricket Association. He has further established KK Global Cricket Academy in Andhra Pradesh with state-of-the-art facilities to promote cricket. \nSports are a crucial part of a student’s holistic growth and development. Games and sports provide great help in the development of mental health and physical fitness of the body. DESCRIPTION:The well-designed Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021 not only gives an overview of the university systems and process but also provides a gateway to holistic development for the students. Progressing with the orientation programmes\, the second session on the mindfulness of the students has been planned in collaboration with Heartfulness Institute for August 27\, 2021\, at 2.30 pm. Ms Ragini Mathur\, one of the dedicated trainers of Heartfulness Institute\, will enlighten the students on “Refresh (Organizing the Mind)”. \nMs Ragini Mathur started her career as a Government teacher. She later got selected in Central Railways in RE Project. She secured promotion and became Divisional Railway Manager for the Bhopal Region. After taking voluntary retirement from Railway Services\, she worked as an Administrative Office Superintendent. She joined Heartfulness Institute more the two and half decades ago and became a trainer in 2011. The versatile Ms Mathur has also worked as a radio jockey and a casual announcer for Yuvvani Programme in Akashvani. DESCRIPTION:The Directorate of Student Affairs at SRM University-AP organised a session titled Speak Your Heart (The Happiness Trip) on June 29\, 2020. The talk explored the understanding of Happiness and decoded the multiple ways of achieving and retaining it. Dr Nappinnai Seran\, Professor\, Department of Psychiatry at Meenakshi Medical College delivered the talk. Dr Seran is also a renowned psychologist and Marital  Therapist. \nThe session tackled the idea that people need to strive for a happier and more fulfilling life. It busted the misconception that momentary happiness is insignificant. Dr Seran\, a leading expert on the subject\, shared invaluable insights on how to achieve true happiness and maintain it. Attendees were given a unique opportunity to learn about the complexities of the Happiness Trap and how to avoid it.  \nDr  Nappinnai Seran’s expertise allowed the students an opportunity to imbibe and navigate the challenges related to happiness and well-being. The interactive nature of the session encourages active participation and the exchange of ideas. Dr Nappinnai Seran’s ability to seamlessly blend professional expertise with relatable anecdotes resonated strongly with the audience. The interactive nature of the session\, especially the Q&A segment\, facilitated a direct connection between Dr Seran and the students\, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding.

The event was celebrated as part of the initiative launched by The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) and ‘Fit India Mission’ that aimed to take the Fit India movement to our organisations and encourage them to participate in developing a healthy and fit body and mind. The National Sports Day celebration witnessed the participation of almost 100 students and faculty from across the university.
