SUMMARY:Breaking the contract with unnecessary stress
DESCRIPTION:Stress is an inescapable element of the modern age. At its core\, stress is a response method of the body to the unpredictability of everyday life. People try their best to cope with the challenging changes in day-to-day life. When you let all those entangled thoughts and feelings percolate instead of finding the source of the things that stress you out\, it starts to take a toll on your emotional and physical health. That’s why it’s important to find ways to mitigate your body and mind’s stress responses. \nThe Department of Student Affairs is conducting a session on Time to kick the stress out to convey the importance of identifying harmful stress and managing it in the best way possible. Your intention shouldn’t be to eliminate all the stress but the unnecessary stress and effectively manage the rest. Student Counsellor Ms Liza Hazarika will be handling the session. \nDate: July 22\, 2022 \nTime: 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm \nVenue: ALC 3 – Admin Block \nAbout the speaker \nMs Liza Hazarika is a student counsellor with an open and versatile approach to Psychology. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Handique Girl’s College followed by her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Amity University. Ms Hazarika has worked as an On-call counsellor and Mental Well-being trainer with the Forward Seamen Union of India and International Transports’ federation. She has also worked with different NGOs like Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust\, Protsahan\, Aarogya Seva\, etc. as Trainer\, Educator\, and On-call Counsellor. \nLet’s learn what triggers us and kick the stress out. \nJoin the session!

SUMMARY:Find your place behind the screen
DESCRIPTION:No form of art goes beyond ordinary consciousness as film does\, straight to our emotions\, deep into the twilight room of the soul \n– Ingmar Bergman \nInside the dark space of a movie theatre\, it’s just us\, the screen\, and the projecting light against the world. We join the revolt of the artist against the real. The very idea of perceiving the comfort and discomfort of a cinema while sitting with a bunch of unfamiliar faces is enough to make you fall into the rabbit hole of filmmaking. \nEver wondered how people connect with people through mere moving images? Ever think of the stories you want to tell but cannot fix frames and pour life into them? It is the filmmaking enthusiast in you who makes you think of what is in a frame and what is out. \nThe fascinating thing about cinema is that it is an endless tool made up of pretty much the same elements. Cinema uses the language of dreams and each of them is entirely different from the other. The Movie Club is ready with a filmmaking workshop to awaken the storyteller in you. The workshop offers an intensive and instructional five-day programme focusing on the five main agents of cinema\, including Scriptwriting\, Direction\, Photography\, Editing\, and Acting. \nDate: From July 7 to July 11\, 2022 \nTime: 6 PM \nWith every good film you see\, you feel reborn

SUMMARY:Yesterday you said tomorrow!
DESCRIPTION:Procrastination is irrational and existential at its core. The ambiguous nature of self-awareness makes us feel rotten and glad at the same time while putting things off for a moment. It is a coping mechanism to resist the challenging emotions caused by the sight of certain tasks. That’s why procrastination is never an issue of time management but emotion regulation. It becomes a habit and not a once-in-a-blue-moon phenomenon. \nThe Department of Student Affairs is coming up with a talk on Today is the new Tomorrow – Beat procrastination\, which will be handled by Student Counsellor Ms Sridevi Srinath.  It’s time to break the ties between procrastination and productivity. It has nothing to do with the effectiveness of productive effort but with managing emotions. This session will help you break the procrastination cycle and develop an action plan that works for you. \nDate: July 07\, 2022 \nTime: 4 pm to 5 pm \nAbout the speaker \nMs Sridevi Srinath has been in the field of counselling for over eight years. She holds an MSc in Counselling Psychology from Madras School of Social Work and an MPhil in Psychology from the University of Madras. Working in a school previously\, she has over five years of experience in impacting the lives of children and adults across issues such as anxiety\, stress\, behavioural changes\, soft and life skills\, and career guidance\, to name a few. She also has certification from UCLA Extension in Career Guidance and Counselling. \nLet tomorrow be a fallacy; start getting your stuff done today

SUMMARY:Classical concert on Annamacharya Sankeertanas
DESCRIPTION:Tallapaka Annamacharya\, popularly known as ‘Anamayya’\, was a 15th-century saint and the earliest known Indian musician to compose songs called sankeertanas in praise of Lord Venkateswara. His compositions have strongly influenced the structure of Carnatic Music and are still making rounds in various music concerts and performances the world over. \nHaving composed countless odes to Sri Tirumala Venkateswara Swamy\, Annamacharya is widely regarded as the Pada Kavitaa Pitamaha of Telugu poetry. He was a reputed singer and an eminent poet who gave life to the Telugu song and lyricism by blending the Telugu ‘Andhra Vedam’ for the easy understanding of the common man\, with the summary of ‘Sanskrit Vedas’. \nTirumala Tirupati Devasthanams\, also known as TTD\, are on an endeavour to preserve the rich heritage of his compositions. They have set music to over 800 compositions of Annamacharya that have amassed wide popularity among the devotees. We are delighted to announce that the following TTD musicians will be offering a beautiful rendition of Annamacharya’s compositions at our university campus: \nMr M B Loganatha Reddy (Singer) \nMr Srinivasulu (Keyboard) \nMr Bujji (Tabla) \nMr Ramachandraiyya (Shruthi) \nLend your ears to their soothing and heart-warming performance. \nDate: June 8\, 2022 \nTime: 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm \nVenue: Auditorium

The emphasis on sustainable practices prompted students to reflect on their individual roles in environmental protection. SUMMARY:Renewing a battle that is worth fighting for
DESCRIPTION:Imagine a motto having the same relevance and emergency even after 50 years of its inception! The slogan for the Stockholm Conference\, #OnlyOneEarth of 1972\, can relate. The theme is as pertinent as ever\, with a lot more amplified concerns. This World Environment Day\, revisit the actuality that Mother Earth is still the only liveable planet we have. Nature conservation is that battle we plot against ourselves only to win back what we destroyed. \nThe reckless devastations can only be nullified through transformative actions which can reset the balance between humanity and nature. Getting out of the denial stage and acting accordingly is the only way to preserve nature for the next generation. A greener\, cleaner\, and sustainable tomorrow will always be a matter of urgency with the escalating environmental issues. \nThe Department of Student Affairs is celebrating World Environment Day to spread hopes and action plans for protecting what we have in order to restore what we lost. The celebration aspires to emphasise and accelerate the thoughts on the predicament situation we are in. As part of the event\, there will also be an awareness rally to foster the essence of the message. \nDate: June 05\, 2022 \nTime: 08.00 AM to 10.00 AM IST \nCome along and renew the pledge to embrace mother nature!

SUMMARY:Demystifying the essence of yoga
DESCRIPTION:“Yoga is the practice of tolerating the consequences of being yourself”  – Bhagavad Gita \nHave you ever tried to demystify the meaning of yoga? Yoga\, sometimes undefinable\, is a multifaceted term having several layers of meaning embedded into it. For some\, it’s a form of exercise. For some others\, yoga is a religion or a philosophy. And you may have also come across the perception deduced by many that yoga is just a way of life. So\, what exactly is yoga? How do you give it an all-encompassing definition? \nThe term yoga literally means “union”. It is the coming together of body\, mind\, emotions\, and energy to render you the complete experience of being you. It takes one on the transcendental journey to explore one’s true self. It also anchors as an ultimate solution to all the sufferings and woes that weigh you down. \nThe Department of Student Affairs is hosting a series of events marking the arrival of International Yoga Day\, 2022. As part of the series\, a yoga session has been organised to walk our students through the enchanting exercise of knowing thyself. \nDate: April 28\, 2022 \nTime: 3.35 pm \nVenue: New Academic Block- S207 \nWe invite all our students to take this infant stride into a bigger journey of discovering the inner self.

SUMMARY:Redefining the beauty standards
DESCRIPTION:Imagine being taught from a very young age that you must cater to the expectations of each and everyone around you but not yours. Think about the times you tried to fit yourself in someone else’s set of standards. Falling into the rabbit hole of hating our own appearance has become easy ever since the media started setting unrealistic beauty standards. Rise of social media fitness gurus and influencers\, who are obsessed with the unreasonable “flaws” in our bodies\, accelerated the process. This led to a myriad of issues ranging from eating disorders to anxiety and depression. \nClaiming the existence of an alternate explanation of beauty outside the stereotypes is thus the need of the hour. Cherishing yourself the way you are is not just an act of love but a socio-political statement. The ability to choose how to use your own body\, irrespective of an outsider’s opinion\, is an essential right of every individual. \nThe Department of Student Affairs is organising a session\, ‘Reclaiming bodily autonomy’ with Ms Sridevi Srinath to help you unlearn the standard narratives of beauty. Let you be the one who decides what to do and what not to do with your body. \nDate: April 23\, 2022 \nTime: 11.00 am to 12.00 pm IST

SUMMARY:"Dark Side of Positive Vibes"- In Conversation with Liza Hazarika
DESCRIPTION:Think Positive\, Act Positive and Be Positive has always been the mantra towards mindfulness. Have we ever wondered if there could be a limit to the amount of positivity one can afford? Remain optimistic\, but pay attention when you are deluged with toxic positivity. It can turn counterproductive as all other human feelings are swept under the rug. Learning to look at the brighter side of things is important; it is equally important to not ignore other inevitable impulses that shape up in your mind. Every emotion is meant to be experienced and prevailed over. It is a mixture of anger\, fear\, pain\, envy\, and disgust that makes you the real you. \nDate: February 19\, 2022 \nTime: 6.30 pm IST \nStay tuned for an illuminating session to enlighten yourselves on the ramifications associated with toxic positivity. Sometimes you can go beyond staying positive to fight your inner demons.

SUMMARY:"Counselling VS Psychiatry"- learn with Liza Hazarika
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Student Affairs organises a session with Ms Liza Hazarika\, Student Counsellor\, SRM University-AP\, on the difference between “Counselling VS Psychiatry” on January 21\, 2022\, at 04.00 pm. \nPeople often use the terms “Psychiatrist” and “Counselling” interchangeably. It is a common confusion among people who are not related to the field of psychiatry or psychology. There are differences between the two professions when it comes to their education\, training\, and scope of practice. In today’s era\, when people are more than often suffering from emotional or mental problems and hesitate to visit a professional\, it is important to know the difference. We often forget that keeping our minds healthy is equally important as keeping our bodies healthy. Youngsters often go through many emotional and psychological problems without being able to share those with anyone. The session Counselling Vs Psychiatry will help you understand the role of a Counsellor in your well-being. \nMs Liza Hazarika was associated as a psychologist with Forward Seamen’s Union of India and with Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust as a volunteer and psychologist. Ms Hazarika is a certified Spiritual therapist from Amrit Asmi Institute. She believes in a holistic approach to treatment. She is the founder of Call For Healing\, a space for spiritual practices. Ms Hazarika is also actively involved in several Non-Governmental Organisations working in areas of mental health. She has done her Master’s in Clinical psychology and Bachelor’s in Psychology from Handique Girl’s College\, Guwahati. \nJoin her on January 21\, 2022\, at 04.00 pm to learn more on the difference between “Counselling VS Psychiatry”.

SUMMARY:On the importance of self-love and self-acceptance
DESCRIPTION:Self-acceptance and self-love are essential aspects of quality health and happiness. The Department of Student Affairs at SRM University-AP organises an interactive session with Student Counsellor Ms Sridevi Srinath to inculcate in students the importance of valuing and respecting oneself\, embracing both the positive and negative facets. The session titled “Self-Love & Self-Acceptance” will be held on January 19\, 2022\, at 4.00 pm through online mode. \nSetting our standards and metrics directly impacts our physical\, mental\, and emotional well-being. We shut ourselves off from the energy that keeps us alive when we refuse to accept ourselves. Those who don’t love and accept themselves get disconnected from life\, falling prey to significant health consequences. The happier you are\, the more you appreciate yourself. \nYou’ll only be happy to the extent that you believe you’re deserving of it. Therefore\, brace yourself for this enlightening session on January 12\, 2022\, at 4.00 pm.
