SUMMARY:Team Sunshine celebrate Children’s day in magnificence
DESCRIPTION:Children’s Day celebrations were held at Nirukonda and Nauluru government schools from Friday to Monday under the auspices of the Student Affairs department at SRM University-AP. The programme named SRM Sunshine\, organised various games and competitions for students from classes one to ten and distributed prizes to winners. The essay writing\, drawing\, running\, skipping and musical chair competitions focused on children and their enjoyment contributing to their cognitive development. \nStudents of SRM University-AP mingled with the children involving them in various games. The tiny tots of Preschool and Pre-primary celebrated the day with much joy and enthusiasm. The celebrations began on Friday\, followed by a variety of fun-filled activities and games planned by the Sunshine team. Children were given chocolates and gifts like crayons\, pencils etc. as a token of appreciation. The event was attended by Ms Revathi Balakrishnan\, Assistant Director – Student Affairs; Dr Abdul Mohimin\, Assistant Director – Physical Education and Mr Narendra Babu\, Manager – Student Affairs. \nEvery year on November 14 India celebrates Children’s Day\, the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru\, India’s first Prime Minister. The day is also known as Bal Diwas. He adored children and once said that children are the country’s future and that they should be loved. Children also adored him and referred to him as ‘Chacha Nehru.’

DESCRIPTION:Starting University life can produce a lot of anxiety in a new student’s heart– “What should I study in college? Will I be able to make any friends? If I have a question\, who should I contact?” Orientation programmes for freshers are designed to help students answer all of these concerns. \nSRM University-AP organises the second session of Freshers’ Orientation 2021 from September 23 to 01 October 2021 to expose students to university life and to acclimate them to their new surroundings. The following day will feature Dr Asha Sarma\, Assistant Professor (Programme Coordinator of Psychology)\, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences\, Assam Down Town University\, Guwahati\, Assam\, who will speak on “Stress Assessment”. \nTaking care of yourself will help maintain your physical\, emotional\, and mental reserves to prevent and manage stress. Effective stress management helps you break the hold stress has on your life to make you happier\, healthier\, and more productive. The ultimate goal for one is to have a balanced life\, with time for work\, relationships\, relaxation\, and fun—and the resilience to hold up under pressure and meet challenges head-on. \nAn exciting and vibrant college life also comes with various challenges that a student needs to deal with. This\, in turn\, also contributes to stress\, one’s self-esteem issue and coping mechanism. These factors can escalate and hamper a student’s academic performance\, emotional and social well-being. Students are very likely to face some or many stressors that may test their adaptability\, including adjusting to a new environment\, balancing heavy workload\, making new friends\, becoming more independent and dealing with other issues. These complicated years can also have the presence of stress\, low self-esteem and anxiety\, due to which there is a dire need for Self-awareness and Stress management among college-going students. Self-improvement is the improvement of one’s knowledge\, status\, or character by one’s own efforts. It is the quest to make an individual better in any and every facet of life. Her talk was followed by a session on guided meditation and relaxation\, motivating the participants to practise a healthy lifestyle that could help develop a sound mental and physical constitution. \nThe event was organised by the department to promote peace and harmony as essential values in life that help achieve an inclusive and prosperous community.

DESCRIPTION:Industrie 4.0 has become increasingly global and cross-industry\, driving digital transformation across industries\, businesses\, and governments. SRM University-AP observes National Engineers’ day with an inspiring talk by Mr Dasari Ramakrishna\, Managing Director\, Efftronics Systems Pvt. Ltd.\, on September 15\, 2021\, at 06.45 pm. \nThe heartbeat of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is algorithms. While algorithms are not new\, the transition of businesses to be algorithmic is game-changing. Mathematicians describe an algorithm as an encapsulated set of rules that act on data to determine an outcome. In system development\, algorithms building is the most challenging and major activity. Visvesvaraya\, the Bharat Ratna awardee\, was born in the Karnataka village of Muddenahalli on September 15\, 1861. As a pioneer in engineering\, he made numerous contributions to the infrastructural backbone of the country. \nAbout the Speaker:\nMr Dasari Ramakrishna is the founding CEO of Efftronics Systems Pvt. His postdoctoral research was carried out at the University of California-Santa Barbara and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. \nProfessor Ramamurty is a widely respected researcher who has co-authored over 250 papers in peer-reviewed international journals that have been referenced over 9000 times (with a Hirsch index of 46) in both the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Several honours\, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences’\, the Lee Hsun Lecture Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences\, TWAS Prize (Engineering Sciences)\, CNR Rao Prize Lecture in Advanced Materials of Materials Research Society of India\, J.C. Bose National Fellowship and Swarnajayanthi Fellowships of Government of India\, Metallurgist of the Year Award by Indian Institute of Metals\, and Scopus Young Scientist Award\, have acknowledged his research efforts. \nProfessor Ramamurty is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy\, the Indian National Academy of Engineering\, the Indian Academy of Sciences\, and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He held numerous distinguished/invited professor/scientist positions around the world\, including the Institute of Materials Research (IMRE) in Singapore\, Zhejiang University in China (Qiushi Distinguished Visiting Professor)\, Université de Lorraine in France (Exceptional Class Professeur invité)\, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in India\, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. \nSince 2014\, Professor Ramamurty has served as an Editor for Acta Materialia and Scripta Materialia. Professor Ramamurty’s research focuses on addressing fundamental scientific and technological difficulties in the materials/mechanics domains\, which have direct implications for advanced manufacturing as well as component structural integrity and reliability. \nProfessor Ramamurty made significant contributions to the understanding of the mechanical behaviour of advanced metallic alloys\, composites\, and molecular crystals during the course of a nearly three-decade professional career. The nature of his work is both fundamental as well as applied and hence was continuously supported by industrial giants like Boeing\, General Motors and Rolls Royce.

Since 2014 he has been working for Daimler in India\, where he was initially responsible for powertrain supplier management. On Thursday\, September 02\, 2021\, she will deliver an address at 2.30 pm on “How to know if you need help”. \nShipra Dhingra is an expressive art-based therapist licensed by UNESCO-CID and Fortis Healthcare\, Shalimar Bagh\, Delhi. She has completed her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Amity University\, Noida. She is also working as a Counselling Psychologist cum journalist cum mental health advocate. Shipra Dhingra\, a versatile woman\, has also founded Happyness Peddler\, an initiative to fight the stigma attached to mental health and spread awareness. At the age of 5\, she began learning Kuchipudi. Ms Vijayalakshmi holds an MA in Kuchipudi dance from PST University\, Hyderabad and an M. Phil in Tourism Management. She is also pursuing her PhD in Dance. She has given more than 1000 performances in India and abroad. \nMs Koka Vijayalakshmi is an Empanelled Artiste of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Koka Vijayalakshmi partook in many Festivals in India and abroad and has over 1000 performances to her credit. She has further choreographed celebrated dance ballets with thematic and innovative presentations. \nA Doordarshan Graded Artiste\, Koka Vijayalakshmi\, is dedicated to promoting dance in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. She set up the Sri Koka Radha Krishna Murthy Academy in memory of her father. This Academy promotes the Rich Indian Culture & Heritage through Indian fine arts in both Telugu-speaking States. \nMs Vijayalakshmi has also released a rare book\, “Bhogini Dandakam”\, written by Sri Bammera Pothana and five Dance ballets in 2011 titled Telugu Samskruti Sourabhalu. She is also the founder secretary of Bharata Rangasthali Academy of Fine Arts. \nMs Koka Vijayalakshmi has been recognised with many awards and accolades for her contributions to dance. He is well-known for leading some high profile investigations with repute and valour. The Retired-IPS officer had previously held the posts of Joint Commissioner of Police of Thane\, Maharashtra and Inspector general of police Rank under Y-category security for dealing with high-profile corruption cases. He has also worked under Anti-Terrorism Squad and CBI. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana has been conferred with the Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Services on January 26 2017. \nHe is known for his impactful speeches and interactions with youth that impels them towards maturity and development. He was an active member of the Lead India Foundation\, which was started with the blessings of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana is also an avid blood donor. SUMMARY:Photography Society celebrates World Photography Day
DESCRIPTION:World Photography Day is an annual global celebration of photography’s art\, craft\, science\, and history. The Photography Society at SRM University-AP is organising a session titled The Scientific Art of Photography on August 19\, 2021\, at 7.00 pm to raise awareness\, share ideas\, and encourage people who work in the field of photography. Dr Manjunatha Thondamal\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences will be the chief guest of the event. \nThe Photography Society\, a student-led initiative of SRM University-AP is one of the active and vibrant clubs wherein students are trained to see and create meaning in what they are able to perceive. Students critically appraise and appreciate the process and product of photography in social-cultural contexts. The scientific art of capturing fleeting moments will be elaborated on by Dr Manjunatha during the session. \nAll students are invited to join the event on August 19\, 2021\, at 7.00 pm and broaden the notion of what and how things can be seen.

SUMMARY:SRM University-AP celebrates 75 years of Indian Independence
DESCRIPTION:In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic\, India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day on August 15\, 2021. The theme of this year’s Independence Day celebrations is “Nation First\, Always First.” SRM University-AP will participate in the virtual celebrations across India through Zoom at 9.00 am. \nAfter the Flag hoisting and National Anthem which will elicit patriotic fervour\, the message for Independence Day will be delivered by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Vajja Sambasiva Rao. The event will move on to performances by the university’s student-led cultural groups. \nIndia’s freedom warriors fought a long and arduous battle for the country’s independence from the British Empire. And their contributions have motivated us for years. To commemorate the glorious lives of freedom fighters and to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”\, let us join together virtually on August 15\, 2021\, at 9:00 am.

SUMMARY:India quiz on the eve of Independence
DESCRIPTION:As various celebrations take place across the country\, the Department of Students’ Affairs is conducting a quick and entertaining Quiz competition for the students of SRM University-AP on August 14\, 2021\, at 7.00 pm to see how well they know India! \nThe tricolour will be unfurled from the Red Fort in Old Delhi by the Prime Minister of India\, as it is every year. On this day we pay tribute to all of India’s great leaders who have heroically fought for the country’s freedom. However\, because of the COVID-19 pandemic\, there will be no large festivities or social events this year. The government\, educational institutions and various organisations across India will broadcast their festivities and celebrations. \nThe Quiz programme aims to foster in students the spirit of the country as we enter into the Diamond Jubilee of India’s Independence. All students are welcome to participate in the “Quiz on India” event on August 14\, 2021\, at 7.00 pm via the Zoom platform.

SUMMARY:Fit India Run on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the 75 years of India’s independence\, “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”\, the Fit India Mission has conceptualised Fit India Freedom Run 2.0. To commemorate the occasion\, SRM University-AP will symbolically join the nationwide virtual marathon on August 13\, 2021\, at 4.00 pm. \nFIT INDIA Movement was launched on 29th August 2019 by the Honorable Prime Minister with a view to make fitness an integral part of our daily lives. The mission of the Movement is to bring about behavioural changes and move towards a more physically active lifestyle. Towards achieving this mission\, Fit India proposes to undertake various initiatives and conduct events to achieve the following objectives: \n\nTo promote fitness as easy\, fun and free\,\nTo spread awareness on fitness and various physical activities that promote fitness through focused campaigns\,\nTo encourage indigenous sports\,\nTo make fitness reach every school\, college/university\, panchayat/village\, etc.\nTo create a platform for citizens of India to share information\, drive awareness and encourage sharing of personal fitness stories.\n\nFit India Run was conceived last year when the entire nation started following physical distancing in a ‘new normal’ lifestyle. To keep the imperative need for fitness active even while following the social distancing norms\, Fit India Freedom Run was launched on the concept of the virtual run. The first edition of the campaign was held from 15th August to 2nd October 2020.
