SRM University-AP observes National Engineers’ day with an inspiring talk by Mr Dasari Ramakrishna\, Managing Director\, Efftronics Systems Pvt. Ltd.\, on September 15\, 2021\, at 06.45 pm. \nThe heartbeat of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is algorithms. While algorithms are not new\, the transition of businesses to be algorithmic is game-changing. Mathematicians describe an algorithm as an encapsulated set of rules that act on data to determine an outcome. In today’s digitalized world\, companies use algorithms on a daily basis to influence and support decisions (fact-based decision making). In system development\, algorithms building is the most challenging and major activity. Often engineers are expected to build completely new algorithms which are not available in the market (internet). One should adopt commonly available algorithms when required. But what is more important is to use various algorithmic concepts/principles together in combination to build a new algorithm. Like any development\, algorithms building also follows the cycle of defining\, analysing\, designing\, implementing\, and testing iteratively in a systematic way. If one had to build algorithmic thinking\, they need to practice with different scenarios\, reflect upon the results and experiment continuously. \nEvery year on September 15\, India commemorates Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s accomplishments by observing National Engineers Day. Visvesvaraya\, the Bharat Ratna awardee\, was born in the Karnataka village of Muddenahalli on September 15\, 1861. As a pioneer in engineering\, he made numerous contributions to the infrastructural backbone of the country. \nAbout the Speaker:\nMr Dasari Ramakrishna is the founding CEO of Efftronics Systems Pvt. Ltd.\, established in 1985. Backed by rich R&D\, Efftronics is now a leading provider of smart solutions for railway signalling\, smart cities\, smart buildings and industries. He is the architect of one of India’s largest IoT networks built for Indian railways with more than 6 million things connected across 9000 locations. He is a continuous learner & thought leader. Under his leadership\, Efftronics has innovated more than 50 solutions for different domains. DESCRIPTION:Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021 welcomes Professor Upadrasta Ramamurty\, School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering\, Nanyang Technological University\, Singapore\, to deliver a talk on September 06\, 2021\, at 12 noon. \nProfessor Upadrasta Ramamurty received a Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgy) degree from Andhra University in 1989 and a Master of Engineering (Metallurgy) degree from Indian Institute of Science in 1991\, both with a Metallurgy specialisation\, as well as a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Engineering from Brown University in 1994. His postdoctoral research was carried out at the University of California-Santa Barbara and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. \nProfessor Ramamurty is a widely respected researcher who has co-authored over 250 papers in peer-reviewed international journals that have been referenced over 9000 times (with a Hirsch index of 46) in both the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Several honours\, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences’\, the Lee Hsun Lecture Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences\, TWAS Prize (Engineering Sciences)\, CNR Rao Prize Lecture in Advanced Materials of Materials Research Society of India\, J.C. Bose National Fellowship and Swarnajayanthi Fellowships of Government of India\, Metallurgist of the Year Award by Indian Institute of Metals\, and Scopus Young Scientist Award\, have acknowledged his research efforts. \nProfessor Ramamurty is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy\, the Indian National Academy of Engineering\, the Indian Academy of Sciences\, and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He held numerous distinguished/invited professor/scientist positions around the world\, including the Institute of Materials Research (IMRE) in Singapore\, Zhejiang University in China (Qiushi Distinguished Visiting Professor)\, Université de Lorraine in France (Exceptional Class Professeur invité)\, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in India\, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. \nSince 2014\, Professor Ramamurty has served as an Editor for Acta Materialia and Scripta Materialia. Professor Ramamurty’s research focuses on addressing fundamental scientific and technological difficulties in the materials/mechanics domains\, which have direct implications for advanced manufacturing as well as component structural integrity and reliability. \nProfessor Ramamurty made significant contributions to the understanding of the mechanical behaviour of advanced metallic alloys\, composites\, and molecular crystals during the course of a nearly three-decade professional career. The nature of his work is both fundamental as well as applied and hence was continuously supported by industrial giants like Boeing\, General Motors and Rolls Royce.

Mr Alex is the CEO and Head of Daimler Bus\, India at Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. The talk has been scheduled for September 04\, 2021\, at 10.45 am  and aims to provide an insight of the industry and its culture. \nMr Karl-Alexander Seidel started his career at Daimler in 2001. Between then and 2014\, he held a variety of management functions in the fields of Reporting\, Business Development\, Product Planning and Homologation\, mainly in Daimler’s commercial vehicles division\, as well as at TASIAP GmbH in Stuttgart. Since 2014 he has been working for Daimler in India\, where he was initially responsible for powertrain supplier management. Between 2016 and 2017 he was in charge of the “Logistics\, Supplier & Quality Management” department at Daimler Buses in India before assuming his current function in 2017. \nMr Karl-Alexander Seidel is a highly competent commercial vehicles manager with many years of India-related experience from our bus business in Chennai. In recent years he has made a significant contribution to building up our Indian bus production activities by implementing corresponding supply and logistics flows\, as well as the corresponding quality management.

He has also done PGD-Yoga and MSc-Yoga from Annamalai University. \nDr K Vaithianathan began his career as a Physical Director in Erode Arts College. He later worked as a faculty in Alagappa College of Physical Education and Pondicherry University. He has also worked as Head\, Professor and Director at Annamalai University. He also worked as the Vice-Chancellor of TamilNadu Physical Education and Sports University\, Chennai. On Thursday\, September 02\, 2021\, she will deliver an address at 2.30 pm on “How to know if you need help”. \nShipra Dhingra is an expressive art-based therapist licensed by UNESCO-CID and Fortis Healthcare\, Shalimar Bagh\, Delhi. She has completed her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Amity University\, Noida. She is also working as a Counselling Psychologist cum journalist cum mental health advocate. Shipra Dhingra\, a versatile woman\, has also founded Happyness Peddler\, an initiative to fight the stigma attached to mental health and spread awareness. At the age of 5\, she began learning Kuchipudi. Ms Vijayalakshmi holds an MA in Kuchipudi dance from PST University\, Hyderabad and an M. Phil in Tourism Management. She is also pursuing her PhD in Dance. She has given more than 1000 performances in India and abroad. \nMs Koka Vijayalakshmi is an Empanelled Artiste of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Koka Vijayalakshmi partook in many Festivals in India and abroad and has over 1000 performances to her credit. She has further choreographed celebrated dance ballets with thematic and innovative presentations. \nA Doordarshan Graded Artiste\, Koka Vijayalakshmi\, is dedicated to promoting dance in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. She set up the Sri Koka Radha Krishna Murthy Academy in memory of her father. This Academy promotes the Rich Indian Culture & Heritage through Indian fine arts in both Telugu-speaking States. \nMs Vijayalakshmi has also released a rare book\, “Bhogini Dandakam”\, written by Sri Bammera Pothana and five Dance ballets in 2011 titled Telugu Samskruti Sourabhalu. She is also the founder secretary of Bharata Rangasthali Academy of Fine Arts. \nMs Koka Vijayalakshmi has been recognised with many awards and accolades for her contributions to dance. The university is honoured to have Mr Vasagiri Venkata Lakshminarayana\, Former Additional Director General of Police in Mumbai\, Maharashtra\, on August 31\, 2021\, at 09.30 am for an interesting discussion. \nMr Lakshminarayana\, a son of the soil\, dedicated his life to the service of the nation. He is well-known for leading some high profile investigations with repute and valour. The Retired-IPS officer had previously held the posts of Joint Commissioner of Police of Thane\, Maharashtra and Inspector general of police Rank under Y-category security for dealing with high-profile corruption cases. He has also worked under Anti-Terrorism Squad and CBI. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana has been conferred with the Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Services on January 26 2017. \nHe is known for his impactful speeches and interactions with youth that impels them towards maturity and development. He was an active member of the Lead India Foundation\, which was started with the blessings of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana is also an avid blood donor. Moreover\, as a part of his social duties towards the nation\, he has adopted several villages that voluntarily prohibit alcohol – Chinnamandadi of Mahabubnagar District\, Sahalalaputtuga of Srikakulam District and Seetharamapuram of Vizianagaram District are among them. Formerly\, Dr Kalidindi N Satyanarayana has been a Professor in the Building Technology & Construction Management Division of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras\, Chennai\, India. To commemorate the occasion\, SRM University-AP will symbolically join the nationwide virtual marathon on August 13\, 2021\, at 4.00 pm. \nFIT INDIA Movement was launched on 29th August 2019 by the Honorable Prime Minister with a view to make fitness an integral part of our daily lives. The mission of the Movement is to bring about behavioural changes and move towards a more physically active lifestyle. Towards achieving this mission\, Fit India proposes to undertake various initiatives and conduct events to achieve the following objectives: \n\nTo promote fitness as easy\, fun and free\,\nTo spread awareness on fitness and various physical activities that promote fitness through focused campaigns\,\nTo encourage indigenous sports\,\nTo make fitness reach every school\, college/university\, panchayat/village\, etc.\nTo create a platform for citizens of India to share information\, drive awareness and encourage sharing of personal fitness stories.\n\nFit India Run was conceived last year when the entire nation started following physical distancing in a ‘new normal’ lifestyle. To keep the imperative need for fitness active even while following the social distancing norms\, Fit India Freedom Run was launched on the concept of the virtual run. The first edition of the campaign was held from 15th August to 2nd October 2020.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Students’ Affairs at SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh is all set to feature the brilliant Ms Sreelekha Bhuvaneswari in the upcoming segment of “The Newsmakers” scheduled on July 10\, 2021\, at 5.30 pm. Ms Sreelekha is a BSc physics final year student who brought laurel to the university by filing a patent for her work titled “A fibre material with moisture retention capacity with thermal tolerance and a method for manufacture” under the guidance of Dr Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics\, SRM University-AP. \nThe project\, with the patent application number 202141023375\, develops a methodology to design a fabric cloth that would replace the use of air conditioners. This cloth design is inspired by Saharan silver ants which regulate their body temperatures in the scorching desert heat and also from the cooling properties of clay. This research would significantly scale down the usage of AC and other cooling devices in warm places\, thus reducing the use of electricity and emission of greenhouse gases to the environment. As this cloth would be environment friendly with long durability and cost-efficiency\, Sreelekha hopes that this research would bridge the socioeconomic divide of haves and have-nots between communities. \n“The Newsmakers” session on July 10\, 2021\, at 5.30 pm will feature Ms Sreelekha narrate her inspiring journey which started with the incredible experience at SRM University-AP that eventually enabled her to be an inventor at a young age.

Despite the chaos of this difficult time\, countless unsung heroes have come forward to pull the distressed out of their sufferings. Among them are Team Abhimanyu and Team Bheeshma\, a group of IT graduates from SRM Institute of Science and Technology\, Kattankulathur\, Chennai. Neelesh Kumar\, Prasanth Koyyalagunta\, Prudhvi Vishwanadhula\, Ruchika Pattjoshi\, Vishnu Padmaraju\, Parthu M\, Irfan\, Manoj Bhuma\, Dinesh DT\, Sai Sandeep\, Vudutha Akhil\, Akhil Thallada\, and M Nikhil Kumar Reddy are young minds aged 24 to 26 pursuing higher studies abroad or employed at reputed MNCs in India. The Department of Student Affairs\, SRM University-AP\, appreciates their virtuous intentions and invites the teams on “Newsmakers” on June 12\, 2021\, at 11.00 am to share their incredible experiences on the path of serving humanity. \nTeam Abhimanyu-the Hope and Team Bheeshma-the Saviour were formed in May 2020 with a noble vision\, “Attitude of Gratitude”\, immediately after the Covid-19 outbreak in India. The main objective of the teams is to help the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in society. They distributed groceries to 335 families of private school teachers who had lost their jobs to Covid-19 in Tirupati\, Vijayawada\, Nellore\, Visakhapatnam\, Chandragiri\, and Hyderabad. Not only did they provide groceries to government school students\, but they also offered a large quantity of hand sanitizers\, masks\, vaporizers\, and stationary items. The teams travelled across the districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana conducting food distribution drives and raising funds for medical treatments\, especially for private school/college teachers. Local newspaper “Sakshi” and ETV Network have featured stories about the teams and they were awarded mementoes for community services. The teams plan projects for educating the underprivileged and looking after the elderly in near future. Team Abhimanyu and Team Beeshma are perfect examples of old heads on young shoulders who sail on philanthropic voyages in spite of the challenges. \nAll are invited to the event on June 12\, 2021\, at 11.00 am\, and are encouraged to listen to the inspiring story of these empathetic young minds.

Since then\, World Environment Day is observed on June 5 annually with eco-sensitive themes to remind individuals and organisations about their duties and responsibilities towards the gift of nature. \nThis year’s theme: ‘Reimagine.Recreate.Restore.’ marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The Department of Student Affairs\, SRM University-AP is organizing a Quiz Programme for the students on June 5\, 2021\, at 7:00 pm to ensure commitment to the earth’s reviving mission\, as a green and sustainable university. \n“Nature is healing” is a misleading message that has been circulated in the digital world during these Covid-19 pandemic days when human activities are shut down around the world. It is not just a year or a decade since humans have started exploiting\, looting\, and destroying the wildlife\, coral reefs\, deserts\, mountains and more. DESCRIPTION:Health and Fitness are the most significant aspects of our lives. These are the two “known “terms going hand in hand. Regular consultations with trusted and experienced medical experts are necessary when health is a concerning factor amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. SRM University-AP steps forward to offer an avenue for its students\, staff and faculty members to discuss their health-related issues. It is a free online medical consultation programme that will take place every Saturday. Distinguished medical officers of the institute Dr Lakshmi Rajyam and Dr Lakshmi Kiran Talluri\, would address the session. \nIn this scenario where individuals are more prone to get infected by a fatal disease\, people must clarify all health-related questions on symptoms\, causes and treatment. The one-hour long consultation session would be a valuable platform for getting responses on health-related issues and bursting the myth regarding diseases. Due to COVID-19\, when people are not inclined to visit the clinics and hospitals\, they can obtain detailed information on their queries through online consultation with these medical experts. \nDr Lakshmi Rajyam is a distinguished personality serving the medical science fraternity for over 42 years and is currently associated with SRM University-AP as the Chief Medical Officer. She has vast experience working with reputed hospitals in the country and can enlighten the participants on testing\, treatment\, and medication. Since 2017\, Dr Rajyam has been an integral part of the SRM Group and is looking after the health and welfare of the University associates in challenging times. \nDr Lakshmi Kiran Talluri is the young mind in the medical team of SRM University-AP. He has completed his MBBS from the NRI College of Medical\, Guntur\, Andhra Pradesh\, and has pledged to render the best services to the community. \nWith the growing stress in life\, people are succumbed to fatal diseases and face an early death—the only way to prevent fatality is the diagnosis and proper medication.
