SUMMARY:Spatial dimensions of Big Data jobs for efficient cluster job scheduling
DESCRIPTION:The Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) jointly present a technical talk on “Exploiting the Spatial Dimensions of Big Data Jobs for Efficient Cluster Job Scheduling” on August 14\, 2021\, Saturday\, at 5:00 pm (IST). Dr Akshay Jajoo\, industrial researcher\, will enlighten the students and researchers on his PhD thesis which focuses on developing novel learning and scheduling algorithms for distributed jobs in clouds. \nThe session\, coordinated by Dr Tousif Khan N\, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering\, will cover the details of the concepts\, use cases\, and involved technology overview. Avid researchers and prospective industrialists are welcome to join the event. \nAbout the Speaker:\nDr Jajoo earned his doctoral degree in computer science from the esteemed Purdue University\, USA. His thesis proposes\, validates\, and designs systems that employ learning algorithms exploiting spatial dimensions. His research focussed on the use of spatial dimensions for efficient scheduling of distributed jobs and to speed up Coflows and big data jobs. While doing B. Tech at IIT Guwahati\, he was awarded Gold Medal for academic achievement\, extracurricular activities\, and community service. On account of his outstanding academic record\, Dr Jajoo was granted different scholarships to pursue research in France and Germany. He has also been a member of ISSA\, ACM\, and CERIAS. \n

SUMMARY:Towards a better understanding of airborne maritime surveillance
DESCRIPTION:Airborne maritime and pollution surveillance plays a crucial role in the defence sector for safeguarding the coastline\, ISRR\, EEZ as well as pollution control\, piracy and maritime terrorism. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SRM University-AP organises a lecture titled “Airborne Maritime Surveillance” on August 21\, 2021\, at 4.00 pm as part of the Departmental Lecture Series. Dr Reena Sharma\, Scientist G\, Centre for Airborne Systems (Ministry of Defence R&D\, DRDO) will be the guest speaker at the event. \nThere is a necessity to monitor the vast Indian\, coastline\, Indian Search and Rescue Region (ISRR) and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on the map of India. The airborne surveillance is carried out by mounting various surveillance and imaging sensors onboard\, an aircraft making it a Maritime Patrol Aircraft or Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft System. Some of the major sensors onboard comprise of AESA Based Maritime Patrol Radar\, Electro-Optics/Infra-Red sensor\, Pollution Surveillance Suite\, Automatic Identification System and others. The sensor’s output is integrated to provide a maritime situational picture displayed to the operators\, thereby providing them with a maritime situational awareness. In this talk\, Dr Reena will be addressing the above facets of airborne maritime surveillance. \nAll are invited to this insightful session on August 21\, 2021\, at 4.00 pm.

SUMMARY:On managing construction sector projects with BIM
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Civil Engineering is conducting the first episode of the Distinguished Lecture Series on August 27\, 2021\, from 9.30 am to 11.00 am. Dr Amarnath CB\, Head-BIM Strategy\, L&T Construction\, is the guest speaker who will deliver a lecture on the title “Managing construction sector projects with BIM”. Global trends\, use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the project life cycle\, and career perspectives (higher education\, job market\, and start-up) will all be discussed during the presentation. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr Amarnath C B is serving as Head – BIM Strategy at Larsen & Toubro. Over the course of his career\, he held positions in India\, Taiwan\, Spain\, Italy\, and the UK. He is playing an active role in several Digital Built India initiatives. He is the Founding President of the National BIM Society-India Building Information Modelling Association® that focuses on the Digital Transformation of the Indian AECO Sector. He is the Chairman-BIM of the Governing Council of the FOCUS Forum of Critical Utility Services. He is serving as Principal Member-Construction Management Sectional Committee CED29\, Bureau of Indian Standards. He also serves as National Secretary of the Forum for Human Rights & Anti-Corruption. He holds a PhD in Establishing Organization BIM Strategies from National Taiwan University with a one-year exchange at Imperial College London. One Master’s in Global BIM Management from the University of Barcelona-Zigurat GIT and another in Construction Management from Bangalore Univ. DESCRIPTION:The research scholars from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering with the support and guidance of the faculty are initiating a Research Scholar’s Talk Series titled My Scholar’s Voice (MSV). The first session in the series will be held on August 28\, 2021. Ms Vineela Chandra D will engage the participants from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with her enlightening talk on Introduction to AI/ML with Python. \nThe objective of the program is to project the expertise of the researcher from their domain to motivate the undergraduate/postgraduate students and fellow researchers. In addition\, one can get familiarized with the research going on in different areas in the ECE department. This will surely develop an interest in research apart from academics. The programme will be beneficial for the presenter as well as the participants as it will help to build up a strong research network where they can continue collaborative research. \nAbout the Speaker:\nMs Vineela Chandra D is pursuing her PhD under the guidance of Dr Karthikeyan E (Department of ECE\, SRM University-AP). She had received her B.Tech degree in ECE from Amritha Vishwa Vidyapeetham\, Coimbatore (2015). She then joined Robert Bosch Engineering and Business solutions ltd\, Coimbatore as an Associate Network Engineer (2015-2017). She received her MTech degree in Embedded systems from KL University (2017-2019). Dr Rajendra Joshi\, Chairman of RI Group\, will deliver a lecture on the topic “Cost-effective high-end research instrumentation and materials in India”. \nIndigenous development of upper end scientific analytical instruments in India has always been a big challenge. RI Instruments & Innovation India has proved that with cohesive teamwork\, this is very much possible. The group has designed Raman Spectrometer\, RIUS (Universal Spectroscopy)\, RIMS (Modular spectroscopic work station) XRD\, TEM (Under Trial)\, Class AAA Solar simulator\, the world’s smallest USB microscope and a few more. \nAbout the speaker: \nDr Rajendra Joshi is the recipient of the National Innovation Award for the year 2019 by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizer\, Govt. of India for the innovation of Graphene Oxide / Li based rechargeable batteries with replaceable electrodes. As an Instrumentation Professional and Material’s Physicist\, he started his career at National Physical Laboratory\, New Delhi in the year 1997 – 1998. He has certification in Quality Control/R&D Professional training from Japan\, Germany\, France\, Italy and UK.
