SUMMARY:Industrial Meet on Fracture Mechanics
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Mechanical Engineering is organising an Industrial Meet titled “Demystifying Fracture Mechanics for Industry: Safe Design\, Analysis and Operation of Pressure Vessels\, Piping & Pipelines & Green Hydrogen Storage and Transportation Equipment.” This workshop is tailored for professionals from the Refinery\, Petrochemical\, Oil & Gas\, and Green Hydrogen sectors\, providing a practical and application-focused understanding of fracture mechanics. \nTailored for industry professionals\, this one-day industrial meet simplifies fracture mechanics into clear\, practical concepts to support the safe design\, analysis\, and operation of pressure-containing systems – pressure vessels\, piping\, pipelines and green hydrogen storage and transportation equipment. \nBenefits of the Workshop \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nApply core fracture mechanics principles and interpret key industry codes (ASME\, API\, BS\, etc.) for design\, analysis\, and integrity assessments.\nPerform Engineering Critical Assessments (ECA) and Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations to effectively manage crack-like flaws.\nAddress challenges related to hydrogen embrittlement and environmental-assisted cracking in green hydrogen pressure equipment.\nEmploy performance-based design methods and leverage digital tools such as Digital Twins for fatigue damage monitoring.\n\nKeynote Speaker – Dr Dipak K Chandiramani\, Independent Consultant & Chair\, ASME PVP Division India \nDr Dipak K Chandiramani (B.Tech. (Hons.)\, M.Tech.\, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur) is a veteran mechanical engineer with over 40 years of industrial experience\, including senior roles at Lloyd’s Register Asia. He currently chairs the ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping (PVP) Division India and the ASME Section VIII International Working Group (India). He is an ASNT Level III in RT\, UT\, PT\, and MT\, and has authored multiple ASME conference papers on the design and evaluation of pressure vessels. \nResource Person – Dr Gurumurthy Kagita\, Professor of Practice\, Department of Mechanical Engineering\, SRM University-AP \nDr Gurumurthy Kagita brings over 29 years of industrial experience in advanced mechanical design engineering\, having held responsible positions at Engineers India Limited\, New Delhi. He specialises in Design-by-Analysis of pressure vessels\, piping\, pipelines\, and offshore structures. His core expertise includes fracture mechanics\, fatigue and creep analysis\, Engineering Critical Assessments (ECA)\, Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations\, advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hydrodynamics. He has made significant contributions to the Refinery\, Petrochemical\, Oil & Gas sectors\, and has authored over 20 technical publications in reputed national and international journals and conferences.

SUMMARY:Two-day User’s Meet on NMR Spectroscopy
DESCRIPTION:The Office of the Dean Research will be organising a two-day User’s Meet focused on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy\, scheduled for June 25 and 26 . This programme is designed to offer a thorough introduction to the principles of NMR spectroscopy\, covering fundamental concepts such as nuclear spin\, magnetic fields\, and resonance phenomena. \nParticipants will also gain insight into the broad applications of NMR spectroscopy across diverse fields\, including chemistry\, biology\, medicine\, and materials science\, through engaging talks and illustrative case studies. \nThis programme is tailored for faculty members\, researchers (postdoctoral fellows\, PhD scholars)\, and final-year M.Tech and MSc students who are interested in advanced material and molecular characterisation techniques. \nKey highlights of the programme include: \n\nHands-on training sessions on operating NMR instruments\nPractical guidance on sample preparation\, experiment setup\, and data acquisition\nInteractive modules on interpreting NMR spectra\nTraining on software tools and analytical methods for NMR data processing\n\nThis user’s meet will help enhance participants’ practical skills and analytical understanding of NMR spectroscopy\, enabling more effective application of the technique in their respective research areas. \nAccess the Complete programme schedule through the link here.
