SUMMARY:Vector Bundles
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:The concept of vector spaces and linear maps between vector spaces are used in all branches of mathematics. In this talk\, we try to explain the concept of vector bundles and mapping between vector bundles\, which is a natural generalization of vector spaces and linear mapping between vector spaces. The concept of vector bundles and mapping between them is very useful tools in several advanced branches of mathematics.\nSpeaker: Prof. D S Nagaraj is a renowned Indian Mathematician. He did his Ph.D. from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)\, Mumbai and he was a professor at the Institute of Mathematical Science (IMSc)\, Chennai\, one of the premier research institutes in India. After his retirement in 2018 from IMSc\, he joined as a professor at IISER\, Tirupati and currently is the head of the mathematics department there. A conference on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday was held at IMSc in 2018 to celebrate his works. His areas of interest include algebraic geometry\, commutative algebra\, and Number theory. Many young scholars who later went on to become well-established mathematicians were influenced by his deep scholarship of the subject. He is extremely generous and approachable to young students who would try to learn algebraic geometry for the first time. All in all\, he has made a great impact as a researcher and a great teacher on a generation of mathematicians. He was elected as a fellow of Indian academy of sciences in 2010 and 2017.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in association with the SRM AP Hackathon club is organising a webinar titled Introduction to Hackathon: Best Practices from 9 am to 10 am\, followed by a 24-hour internal hackathon C2Hack at 10 am on September 24\, 2022. \nA hackathon is a social coding event bringing together computer programmers and other technology enthusiasts together to conceive a new software programme or redesign an existing programme to enhance its performance. Hackathons present a constructive platform for developing prototypes for various applications and programming languages or for providing solutions to real-life challenges ranging from educational technology to disaster management. \nHackathons are thus classified into different types based on their objectives and themes. Having a well-defined set of rules is a necessity while organising a hackathon. The webinar intends to introduce students to the fundamentals of hackathon and some of the effective practices one may follow while participating in a hackathon. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is hosting a seminar on September 16\, 2022\, at 4.00 pm as part of the Guest Lecture Series. Dr Anurag Singh\, Associate Professor and Dean of Research and Consultancy\, NIT Delhi\, will deliver a talk on the topic “Federated Learning”. \nAbstract of the talk \nThe most crucial resource for any business\, individual\, or person in the world is data. Everyone\, whether an individual or an institution\, wants to prevent a data breach. High-quality data must be subjected to machine learning algorithms. The model is trained using traditional machine learning techniques\, which save data to one server. There is a chance that this method will expose personal information. A machine learning technique called federated learning (FL) enables machine learning models to train on various datasets located on various sites without sharing data. Without putting training data in a centralised location\, it enables the development of a common global model. Additionally\, it permits personal information to stay in local places\, lowering the risk. \nA new area of machine learning called federated learning already offers greater advantages than conventional machine learning techniques. \nData Security: Training data is kept locally on the devices\, negating the need for a data pool. \nData variety: Heterogeneous data since it incorporates information from various users. \nReal-time continuous learning: Client data is used to enhance models continuously. \nFederated Learning is applied in the field of IoT\, Healthcare\, smartphones\, Advertising\, Autonomous Vehicles etc. \nSpeaker’s Profile \nDr Anurag Singh is currently working as the Associate Professor and Dean of Research and Consultancy at NIT Delhi. He received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His research areas are Network Theory\, Dynamics on/of Networks\, Opinion Dynamics\, Epidemic Modeling\, Intelligent transportation system etc. Dr Anurag Singh has teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught courses ranging from the introductory level to specialized courses in Computer Science and Engineering\, and Mathematics. Currently\, he is mentoring students at graduate and undergraduate levels at the National Institute of Technology Delhi\, India. In addition\, he has also been supervising PhD students. He has around 70 publications featured across various leading journals and three DST-funded projects to his credit.

Students organised morning and evening aartis from the students promoting a sense of shared responsibility for cultural celebrations. \nThe event promoted cultural inclusivity by bringing together the university community to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. SUMMARY:Art Exhibition Showcases SRM-ites’ Creative Faculties
DESCRIPTION:In observance of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities\, The Creative Arts Club under the Directorate of Student Affairs at SRM University-AP organised an Art Exhibition on August 30 & 31\, 2022. The two-day event showcased the students’ artistic talents through painting\, drawing\, photography and modelling Ganesh idols. \nThe Art pieces displayed for the exhibition employed creative use of materials like ice cream sticks to fabrics\, showcasing the club students’  ingenuity and artistic versatility making the best out of waste. The art pieces reflected dedication and creativity thereby creating a visual spectacle and drawing attention to the varied representations of Lord Ganpati and showcasing different art styles.  \nThe primary objective of the exhibition was to provide a platform for the students to showcase their creative abilities. However\, the event also aimed to offer an opportunity for the students to exhibit their presentation\, communication\, and organisational skills. It was a chance for them to demonstrate their capabilities in planning and executing an event of this nature\, which required them to work collaboratively as a team. The exhibition allowed the students to demonstrate their talents and abilities to a wider audience\, and provided them with a sense of accomplishment and pride in their achievements.

SUMMARY:Patent Maker: instigating promising patents for a technology-driven India
DESCRIPTION:Innovation is crucial to the development and deployment of technologies. Patents stimulate technological innovations by providing an incentive for research and development. They disperse technical information and facilitate technology transfer. Hatchlab Research Centre unveils the concept of Patent Maker to give breath to the projects and patents that deserves a high commercial application. Professor G S Vinod Kumar\, an expert\, mentor\, and multidimensional professional\, will guide the workshop by sharing his valuable wisdom in the domain of innovation and leadership. \nDate: August 18\, 2022 \nTime: 7.00 pm to 7.45 pm \nThe life cycle of technologies runs through invention\, research\, development\, dissemination\, market development\, and commercial diffusion. The various processes happening at each of these stages provide numerous opportunities to employ instruments that promote innovation. \nHowever\, the journey of a perfect project or patent is quite challenging and time-taking. So much hard work goes down in creating one good project or filing one patent. But the irony is that roughly only around 3% of the patents are being commercialised. Their impact is not reaching where they are supposed to\, as they are unable to deliver greater benefit to society at application levels. Promising projects and patents are literally national assets. A little alignment of the priced asset with the industry can turn most of the brilliant work into something of high commercial value\, which could be a boon for the entire economy. \nAbout the Speaker \nProfessor G S Vinod Kumar did his PhD from IIT Kharagpur and post-doctoral research at Helmholtz centre Berlin for materials and energy\, Germany. He has vast research experience in metallurgy and materials engineering about 16 years\, in the field of non-ferrous alloys and precious metals. He currently handles sponsored research projects from industries such as Titan Company Ltd\, (Tanishq)\, WHP-Sons\, Maharashtra\, Jewel Craft Ltd\, and Chennai in gold and Silver alloys for jewellery manufacturing. He also handles consultancy projects from INDSAT corporation\, Chennai in die-cast aluminium alloys. He has 40 research publications\, 13 patents and 2 technology transfers to industry (Titan). Some of his technologies are currently in the market as products. He has recently filed a patent jointly with Titan Company Ltd\, which is the first time in the history of TATA. \nJoin the session to learn the entire process\, challenges\, and scopes of patents.

SUMMARY:Kondapalli toys; the geographical indication handicrafts of Andhra Pradesh
DESCRIPTION:The legacy of India’s craft culture always occupies a special spot owing to its beauty\, dignity\, form\, style\, and aesthetics. India is traditionally known for its rural village and wooden cottage Industries. Among them\, Andhra Pradesh has glorious rural artisan handmade traditions in toys. The office of International Relations and Higher Studies conducted a workshop on August 16\, 2022\, to promote and celebrate the dignity of Kondapalli Toys. These toys are one of the geographical indication handicrafts from Andhra Pradesh. \nThe workshop belongs to the series of sessions organised as part of Aadigyan\, the social leadership programme. Mr Durga Prasad\, a traditional Kondapalli artisan of Andhra Pradesh\, handled the workshop for two hours. He demonstrated the process of crafting the toys and explained their history. Various tools used for wood carving\, division of labor among male and female artisans\, social implications of the toys\, etc.\, were discussed in this interactive session. Volunteered students also learned some wood carving basics from the artisan himself. \nThe rural industry holds a share of ten percent in the decentralised sector. The handicrafts industry is one of the major sectors that offer employment opportunities to a larger number of individuals. Yet the 400 years old industry is not getting the attention it deserves due to a lack of promotion and awareness. Sandeep Samala\, the programme coordinator\, highlighted the need for spreading the heritage of Kondapalli toys among the younger generation. He also explained how the industry could be approached from a startup’s perspective to amplify the toys’ promotion.

SUMMARY:From scratch to the published manuscript
DESCRIPTION:An ideal research process relies on some essential characteristics. One among them is to communicate the research findings. Peer reviewed research journals serve a huge role in this. However\, researchers lack an understanding of how to write a publishable research paper. Grasping the basic structure of a scientific paper would help the researcher to decide what should be included in each section. There will be pitfalls in each of these sections but can be avoided if approached strategically. Along with the other components\, target journal selection and authorship is also an important aspect of this entire activity. \nSuccessful production of an article for submission to a peer‐reviewed scientific journal requires substantial effort. To ensure this success\, The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is planning for a one-day online workshop on How to write and publish a research article. \nDate: August 06\, 2022 \nTime: 09.30 am to 1.00 pm \nThe workshop expects more than four hundred participants. It is open to both students and faculty from UG\, PG and PhD programmes. Assistant Professors Dr V Manikandan and Dr Murali Krishna Enduri are coordinating the event. The workshop will give a general idea about topics such as\, different options to publish research works\, benefits of publishing research articles\, steps to write a review paper or research article from scratch\, hands-on training with LaTeX to write a research article etc.

DESCRIPTION:Ever wanted to live resolutely? Felt the need to be aware of where and why are you going and what are your intentions? \nDreams that foster a sense of purpose can potentially change the trajectory of an individual’s life. Finding meaning in life is one of the fundamental human needs. But for most people\, finding a purpose is not apparent. The modern world tends to distract people from their actual goals and let them be pretentious about something which is not. \nOur deepest fear is not that we are inadequate but powerful beyond measure. We are unaware of how to hold and direct our own light that it tends to frighten us more than our darkness. The secret to the meaning of life lies in recognising the true goals and aligning everything in life around that. \nThe Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation is conducting a 45-minute workshop on How to fix progressive goals in life to give a glimpse of how powerful a simple act of discovering your purpose of life could be. This will be a demo session and is open to all. Post that\, only 10 students will be taken for a coaching of 30 days impact programme\, where mentors will be closely working with the ten individuals to create the change and become instrumental in the expected transformation.
