SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Sustainable Investment: Maintaining Portfolio Performance While Reducing The Carbon Footprint
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Sustainable Investment: Maintaining Portfolio Performance While Reducing The Carbon Footprint”. The session will feature Rituparna Sen\, Associate Professor in the Applied Statistics Division at the Indian Statistical Institute\, Bangalore\, as the expert speaker. \nRituparna Sen holds a PhD in statistics from the University of Chicago and is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. She has authored over thirty research papers and a book titled Computational Finance with R\, served as an editor for leading statistical journals\, and received multiple prestigious accolades\, including the Young Statistical Scientist Award. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in sustainable finance\, computational statistics\, portfolio management\, and climate-aligned investment strategies. \nAbstract \nAmid the global crisis of climate change\, urgent action is imperative. In this study\, we develop two types of decarbonized indices\, which render a dynamic hedging approach for passive investors. Focusing on long-term returns with minimal active trading and risk exposure\, we create the decarbonized indices for NIFTY-50\, a benchmark index for the Indian market. Proposed methodology relies on suitable optimization techniques to choose the portfolio weights that minimize the tracking error while significantly reducing carbon footprints. These indices are shown to perform better than existing benchmarks\, especially during major climate events. In ongoing work\, we use tail risk measures instead of variance to control the risk of the portfolio. \nKey Details \n\nDate: September 9\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: Level 5\, Tiered Classroom\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: Sustainable Investment: Maintaining Portfolio Performance While Reducing The Carbon Footprint\nSpeaker: Rituparna Sen (Associate Professor\, Applied Statistics Division\, Indian Statistical Institute\, Bangalore)

SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Deeper Agreements\, Policy Uncertainty\, And Cross-Border Services Expansion
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Deeper Agreements\, Policy Uncertainty\, And Cross-Border Services Expansion”. The session will feature Dr Banantika Datta\, Assistant Professor at Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM)\, Bengaluru\, and Visiting Professor at IIM Amritsar\, as the expert speaker. \nDr Datta holds a PhD in Economics from IIM Bangalore and is an economist specialising in international trade\, services trade\, labour mobility\, and development economics. She has extensive experience across academia and industry\, having conducted research projects with the World Health Organization (WHO) and worked in risk management at Deloitte. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in international trade\, economic policy\, global services markets\, and development economics. \nAbstract \nThis paper examines how services provisions within trade agreements shape services trade expansion and explores the mechanisms causing this impact. While the existing literature in international business and trade establishes that agreements increase trade\, limited attention has been paid to how deeper agreements affect the global services markets. This paper argues that service provisions within trade agreements enhance service exports by moderating trade uncertainty between trading partners\, thereby enhancing the institutional environment within which firms operate. Unlike goods trade\, services trade is highly regulation-intensive\, contract-dependent\, and sensitive to policy reversals. Consequently\, uncertainty surrounding market access\, transaction costs\, regulatory recognition\, and dispute settlement mechanisms can significantly deter cross-border expansion by service providers. Increasingly\, goods trade is supported by several services\, which can result in higher exports of enabling and supporting services. Therefore\, the paper examines the impact of service provisions within trade agreements by accounting for the volume of goods trade. The findings confirm that service provisions in trade agreements significantly enhance bilateral services exports\, even after accounting for goods trade\, advocating the need for deeper trade agreements with substantial commitments\, strengthening institutional credibility between partner countries. \nKey Details \n\nDate: September 16\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: C402\, C. SUMMARY:Impacts of Conditional Cash Transfers on Women’s Educational Time Investments: Evidence from the Indian Time Use Survey
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Economics\, SRM University–AP\, invites faculty members\, researchers\, scholars\, and students to the September edition of the SRMAP Economics Virtual Seminar Series. \nThe session will feature Dr Sneha Lamba\, Assistant Professor\, IIT Delhi\, who will discuss the impacts of conditional cash transfer programmes on women’s allocation of time towards education\, drawing on evidence from the Indian Time Use Survey. The seminar will offer an opportunity to examine the relationship between social protection interventions\, women’s educational investments\, and time allocation within the Indian context. \nSpeaker: Dr Sneha Lamba\, Assistant Professor\, IIT Delhi\nTitle: Impacts of Conditional Cash Transfers on Women’s Educational Time Investments: Evidence from the Indian Time Use Survey\nDate: September 16\, 2026\nTime: 3:45 PM – 5:00 PM\nMode: Online via Zoom \nAbstract: Human capital formation among adolescent girls is frequently  constrained by socioeconomic norms that favor early marriage\, household  labor\, and reduced schooling. We study the impacts of a large-scale conditional cash transfer (CCT) program in India—the Kanyashree  Prakalpa—that incentivizes girls’ education and delays school dropout  through financial incentives. Using time-use data from a national survey and exploiting cross-state policy variations\, we estimate the program’s intent-to-treat effects on educational time investments at home and at  school. Our estimates indicate that the program raised girls’ time devoted to educational activities and to homework/tuition by about 3.5 percent and 9 percent\, respectively\, relative to the sample mean. This was accompanied by a substantial reduction in time spent on domestic work. By contrast\, we detect no statistically significant changes in time spent in school at either the extensive or intensive margin. We  also find long-term effects: women exposed to the program exhibit higher educational attainment and greater investment in educational activities in early adulthood\, sometimes well after program eligibility has expired. These findings contribute to the growing evidence on the role of CCTs in reshaping intra-household time allocation and generating persistent gains in human capital formation for women. \nZoom registration link: https://srmap.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_oTEu3E5mRkOQVtt8dLwrHQ \nThe seminar is part of the monthly SRMAP Economics Virtual Seminar Series\, held on the third Wednesday of every month\, providing a platform for academic exchange and discussion on contemporary issues in economics.

SUMMARY:University Distinguished Lecture - From Curiosity to Discovery — The Power of Scientific Inquiry
DESCRIPTION:SRM University-AP is hosting University Distinguished Lecture #26\, titled “From Curiosity to Discovery — The Power of Scientific Inquiry”. The session will feature Prof. Anantanarayanan Raman\, Senior Scientist (Health & Biosecurity) at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)\, Floreat Park Campus\, Perth\, Australia\, as the distinguished speaker. \nThe lecture is designed to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in scientific methodologies\, research innovation\, and the evolution of systematic inquiry. \nAbstract \nScientific inquiry’s strength and power lie in it being systematic and in the intellectual capacity to transform curiosity into a sound corpus of knowledge through observation\, testing\, and continuous iteration. This process energises efforts to distinguish fact from assumption\, solve intricate problems and convoluted challenges\, and shift towards ‘truth’ — the ‘scientific truth’. Greater clarity emerges because of newly accrued evidence. Scientific inquiry replaces conjectures with substantiations\, empowering us with a brilliant rational power to explain how the biophysical world operates and to arrive at reasoned conclusions. \nIn this presentation\, Prof. Raman will touch on the two key drivers of science — curiosity (the spark) and discovery (the fire). He will refer to two pivotal points of scientific inquiry: ‘logic’ and ‘epistemic openness’\, concluding with an analysis of how scientific inquiry has evolved and adapted under the post-modern era of globalisation. \nKey Details \n\nDate: Tuesday\, September 22\, 2026\nTime: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM\nVenue: ALC-1\, 3rd Floor\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: From Curiosity to Discovery — The Power of Scientific Inquiry\nSpeaker: Prof. Anantanarayanan Raman (Senior Scientist\, Health & Biosecurity\, CSIRO\, Perth\, Australia

SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Role Of Brand Super-Efforts And Positive Emotions During Exogenous Brand Crisis: Macro-Meso-Micro Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Role Of Brand Super-Efforts And Positive Emotions During Exogenous Brand Crisis: Macro-Meso-Micro Perspective”. The session will feature Dr Kalpana Chandrasekar\, former Assistant Professor of Marketing and UGC NET-JRF qualified scholar\, as the expert speaker. \nDr Chandrasekar holds a PhD in Marketing from IIT Madras\, where her research received the Best Research Thesis in Marketing (Sri N Kannan Prize 2024). An alumnus of IIM Tiruchirappalli and recipient of the Director’s Gold Medal\, she combines five years of IT industry experience with research on brand crisis\, crisis communication\, and consumer behaviour published in top management journals. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in marketing management\, brand strategy\, crisis communication\, and consumer behaviour. \nAbstract \nBrand management research investigating external crisis threats (e.g.\, natural\, health\, economic crises) that are not due to brand actions or associations\, are found to be sparse with little progress. Anchoring on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory\, this study aims to investigate the impact of exogenous brand crises (EBC) and brand’s responses on the affective and behavioural changes of consumers. \nFirstly\, the extensive EBC types are catalogued\, and a typology is developed (Study 1) through review of extant literature and secondary data analysis. Exploratory studies – RGT based interviews (Study 2) and collage construction (Study 3) were conducted to identify the most significant EBC and the key constructs that impact consumer purchase decisions. Based on the findings\, a multi-level approach is adapted across pervasive and localised EBC impact. Consequent quantitative studies (Study 4-6) investigated the interrelation between – brand’s ‘super-efforts’ at macro level\, community members’ brand evangelism at meso level\, their impact on consumer attitude and purchase intention at micro level. Research findings provide a comprehensive approach towards EBC management that will enable brand managers to effectively navigate through the challenges and seize the opportunities posed by the EBC. \nKey Details \n\nDate: September 30\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: Level 5\, Tiered Classroom\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: Role Of Brand Super-Efforts And Positive Emotions During Exogenous Brand Crisis: Macro-Meso-Micro Perspective\nSpeaker: Dr Kalpana Chandrasekar (Former Assistant Professor of Marketing; PhD\, IIT Madras)

SUMMARY:Seminar Series - Managing Density Bias In Clustering-Based Facility Placement For Consumption-Driven Last-Mile Delivery: A Demand-Conditioned Clustering Approach
DESCRIPTION:The Paari School of Business at SRM University-AP is organising a Research Seminar titled “Managing Density Bias In Clustering-Based Facility Placement For Consumption-Driven Last-Mile Delivery: A Demand-Conditioned Clustering Approach”. The session will feature Dr Prithvirajan D\, PhD alumnus from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru\, as the expert speaker. \nDr Prithvirajan D received his PhD from the Department of Management Studies at IISc Bengaluru\, specialising in decision support systems\, artificial intelligence\, operations management\, and supply chain optimization. He actively pursues entrepreneurial initiatives translating research outcomes into industry solutions\, notably developing “Fuel Fast”\, a production-grade decision support system for LPG cylinder last-mile delivery operations in India. \nThe session is expected to benefit students\, researchers\, and faculty members interested in supply chain optimization\, operations research\, machine learning applications in logistics\, and business analytics. \nAbstract \nConsumption-driven last-mile delivery systems exhibit intermittent customer ordering behaviour\, where only a subset of registered customers generates demand within a planning period. In such settings\, clustering-based planning approaches that determine temporary restocking or consolidation locations using the geographic distribution of all registered customers can misalign facility locations with realised demand. This occurs because clustering algorithms tend to position centroids toward dense customer regions irrespective of customer activity. Under intermittent demand\, this density-seeking tendency creates an operational misalignment between facility locations and realised demand\, referred to in this study as density bias\, which needs to be managed rather than eliminated. \nThis study examines density bias in conventional clustering-based facility planning and proposes a demand-conditioned clustering approach that incorporates anticipated demand into clustering to better align facility locations with expected demand. Following a predict-then-optimise paradigm\, a machine learning-based classification model first identifies customers likely to generate demand within the planning period\, after which temporary restocking locations are determined by clustering only the anticipated active customers. \nThe proposed approach is evaluated using a large-scale real-world LPG distribution system comprising 16\,861 customers and 641\,276 historical orders. Experimental results across multiple population distribution scenarios show that demand-conditioned clustering reduces total travel distance by 36-52% compared with current practice and by 9-18% relative to conventional clustering-based planning. These findings demonstrate that incorporating demand anticipation at the clustering stage can manage density bias\, reduce avoidable replenishment travel\, and improve operational efficiency in consumption-driven last-mile delivery systems. \nKey Details \n\nDate: October 21\, 2026 (Wednesday)\nTime: 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM\nVenue: Level 5\, Tiered Classroom\, Homi J Bhabha Block\nTopic: Managing Density Bias In Clustering-Based Facility Placement For Consumption-Driven Last-Mile Delivery: A Demand-Conditioned Clustering Approach\nSpeaker: Dr Prithvirajan D (PhD\, Department of Management Studies\, IISc Bengaluru)
