The Department of Economics at SRM University-AP\, in the first session of the Departmental Lecture Series\, is conducting an online lecture titled “An Alternative Fiscal Stimulus Package to Atmanirbhar Bharat” on July 23\, 2021\, at 11.00 am to enunciate a novel perspective for fiscal stimulus packages. \nThe guest speaker Prof Santosh Mehrotra\, visiting professor in the Centre for Development at the University of Bath (UK) will put forth his vision of an alternative fiscal stimulus package to the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan financial package. SUMMARY:Design of modern MW size wind turbine rotor blades
DESCRIPTION:Department of Mechanical Engineering at SRM University-AP organises a talk on “Design of Modern MW Size Wind Turbine Rotor Blades” as part of the departmental seminar series on July 17\, 2021\, at 4.00 pm. Dr Subbareddy Daggumati\, Assistant Professor at IIT Tirupati will be the guest speaker at the event. This talk aims to highlight the various energy sources in India and the role of renewable energy in electricity production. \nDr Daggumati obtained his PhD from Ghent University\, Belgium. He had been the wind turbine blade designer at Siemens and General Electric Co. In this lecture\, he will elucidate on the energy production using wind energy. The kinetic energy of wind is collected using the blades of wind turbines. Wind flows over the blades creating lift (similar to the effect on aeroplane wings)\, which causes the blades to turn. The blades are connected to a drive shaft that turns an electric generator\, which produces (generates) electricity. The lecture will consequently introduce various parts of modern MW size wind turbine parts to the attendees. Ms Sreelekha is a BSc physics final year student who brought laurel to the university by filing a patent for her work titled “A fibre material with moisture retention capacity with thermal tolerance and a method for manufacture” under the guidance of Dr Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics\, SRM University-AP. \nThe project\, with the patent application number 202141023375\, develops a methodology to design a fabric cloth that would replace the use of air conditioners. This cloth design is inspired by Saharan silver ants which regulate their body temperatures in the scorching desert heat and also from the cooling properties of clay. This research would significantly scale down the usage of AC and other cooling devices in warm places\, thus reducing the use of electricity and emission of greenhouse gases to the environment. As this cloth would be environment friendly with long durability and cost-efficiency\, Sreelekha hopes that this research would bridge the socioeconomic divide of haves and have-nots between communities. \n“The Newsmakers” session on July 10\, 2021\, at 5.30 pm will feature Ms Sreelekha narrate her inspiring journey which started with the incredible experience at SRM University-AP that eventually enabled her to be an inventor at a young age.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at SRM University-AP is hosting the second edition of the ongoing online Workshop Series “Learn & Earn: Hands-On Science & Technology (HOST)” to learn and explore the latest techniques in the field of science and technology. The workshop series-II titled “Technical Writing with LaTeX” will be held on July 10\, 2021\, at 11.00 am. Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur\, Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Dr Anuj Deshpande\, Assistant Professor in the Department of ECE  at SRM University-AP\, will engage the attendees of the workshop. \nDr Ram Kulesh Thakur will discuss how to prepare a technical report and improve writing abilities for research and publishing. Dr Anuj will lead the hands-on technical session on using LaTeX to create technical reports\, theses\, research papers\, and presentations. \nMethods to find reliable sources\, practical ideas for organising and drafting the paper\, transitioning between information\, referencing sources and paraphrasing texts to avoid plagiarism\, and format for writing abstracts are some of the other topics which will be covered in this session. The goal is to apply research writing abilities in a practical setting\, as well as to solve problems and resolve the concerns of the participants. \nAbout the Speakers: \nDr Ram Kulesh Thakur’s main areas of interest are Indian Writing in English\, especially poetry; and English Language Teaching for science and technology. He obtained his doctorate in 2013 from the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad\, India\, and holds an M Phil (English) from the same institute. SUMMARY:Learn Chinese with Taiwan Education Centre at SRM University-AP
DESCRIPTION:SRM University-AP has recently established the Taiwan Education Centre (TEC) in collaboration with National Tsing Hua University\, Taiwan. To promote learning of the Mandarin Chinese language among its students\, SRM University-AP organises a webinar to introduce the TEC and its courses to undergraduates on June 24\, 2021\, at 5:30 pm. Ms HsinYi Huang\, Mandarin Chinese Instructor\, SLASS\, SRM University-AP\, will enlighten the students about the course\, its scope\, and career opportunities. The session aims to motivate students to enrol in the Mandarin Chinese Language course as an elective subject for the upcoming semester. TEC offers certified courses that assist students with the educational and scholarship opportunities available to pursue higher education in Taiwan. \nIn the year 2020\, SRM University-AP signed an MoU with National Tsing Hua University to establish the Taiwan Education Centre on campus. The joint initiative plays a significant role in conducting student and faculty exchange programs with Taiwan. TEC is a collaboration that connects two countries through knowledge sharing. \nDr Sutharshan Govindarajan\, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences and Coordinator of Taiwan Education Centre at SRM University-AP will preside over the programme titled “Taiwan Education Centre at SRMAP-Learning a language and beyond!”. DESCRIPTION:People across the world are celebrating the seventh international day of Yoga on the theme “Yoga for well-being”. As the celebration has been scaled down due to the pandemic\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh is celebrating the day by conducting a virtual talk on “Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga-Steps Towards Mastering Oneself” on June 21\, 2021\, at 5.00 pm. \nProf Vajja Sambasiva Rao\, Vice-Chancellor\, and Prof D Narayana Rao\, Pro-Vice-Chancellor SRM University-AP will address the virtual gathering. The Heartfulness Centre at Vijayawada collaborates with our university to observe the day with lectures and yoga sessions from Dr K Tirupati Rao\, Sri Srinivasa Rao (Trainers)\, and Ms Harshada Kulkarni\, Visiting Faculty at IDEA\, SRM University-AP. \nThe International Yoga Day was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a speech to the United Nations and has been observed worldwide every year since June 21\, 2015\, to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of yoga for health. In this unprecedented times of Covid-19\, incorporating yoga into one’s routine is beneficial. Yoga is believed to be effective for the psycho-social care and rehabilitation of Covid-19 patients in quarantine and isolation.
