DESCRIPTION:Department of Mathematics\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh presents departmental seminar on “Introduction to Homogenization Problem and Tartar’s Method”. During the session on February 17\, 2021\, at 5.30 PM\, Dr Ravi Prakash\, Assistant Professor\, Departamento de Matem ́atica\, Universidad de Concepci ́on\, Concepci ́on\, Chile\, will describe this mathematical theory that has been introduced to explicate the behaviour of composite materials used by the material scientists. He will illustrate this model by drawing example of a homogenized material. \nThe aim of ’Homogenization’ is precisely to give the macroscopic properties of the composite by taking into account the properties of its structure. For a good understanding of this area\, one must have a definite knowledge of Distribution Theory\, Functional Analysis\, Measure Theory\, and Differential Equations. \nThe theory of Homogenization has reaching applications in several areas (including composite materials) such as porous media\, analysis of their structures\, etc. During the session\, the esteemed guest lecturer will enable the audience to comprehend how Tartar’s Method uses two scales for the characterization of the material – the microscopic one\, describing the heterogeneities\, and the macroscopic one\, describing the global behavior of the composite.

DESCRIPTION:Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organises Invited Talk to prepare students for the upcoming competitive exams \nHigher Studies or Job? Students are often torn between these two after the completion of their undergraduate studies. Whereas getting a job after B.E./B.Tech is not that difficult\, but securing one’s dream job may not be that easy. Some students prefer to take admission in a reputed institution and pursue higher studies\, some might want to join R&D in well-established companies. A few might be even interested in securing employment in the public sector. The choices vary from one student to another depending on their merit\, financial stability and personal preferences. SRM University-AP always encourages students to go for their choices. A good pay package is only useful when it comes with a job of one’s inclination. However\, first of all\, one has to be aware of the choices he/she has. Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organises an invited talk on the two of the most sought after opportunities for engineers after their undergraduate studies- Indian engineering Services and GATE. \nIndian Engineering Service offers highly prestigious employment under the Government of India. The IES is a very specialised and technical service. Only engineering graduates from recognised universities are eligible to take the entrance examination. Even postgraduates with specific specialisations such as wireless communications\, radio engineering\, electronics\, or radiophysics are eligible to apply in certain posts. A career in Indian Engineering Services allows an engineer to administer a large segment of technical challenges in the public sector economy\, consisting of Indian Railways\, Power\, Telecommunications\, Central Water engineering\, and Defence service of Engineers\, Central Engineering Service. \nOn the other hand\, the purpose of the GATE exam is to test students’ knowledge and understanding of their undergraduate level subjects in Engineering and Sciences. A misconception among the students is that the GATE exam is only necessary for the ME. /M. Tech aspirants who want to pursue a career in academia. But\, the GATE score of the candidate is also valued by several public sector undertakings (PSU) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions or to be enlisted in the Fellowship Programs of CSIR or applying for scholarships in ME/M.Tech\, and many more. \nHowever\, qualifying these examinations is not a piece of cake. It requires rigorous planning\, perseverance and above all\, hard work. But\, there is always some strategic points which can make a student stand out in the exams. DESCRIPTION:Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is nationwide revered as a legendary figure of the Indian National Movement. A study of his biography unfolds his unflagging zeal\, as a leader and motivator. His social\, economic\, and political concepts were formulated with the sole objective of India’s emancipation from the British rule of exploitation and oppression. He also thought about the reconstruction of Free India. \nAccording to Subhas Chandra Bose\, education was essential for character building and overall development of human life. Education unveils the internal discipline of mind and thoughts\, which in its turn produces external discipline of control of action or deeds. \nHe understood the need for female education and female emancipation- liberating from all shackles and artificial disabilities – social\, economic and political. Netaji Subhas Chandra was completely against of any discrimination on the grounds of caste\, race\, sex\, creed or wealth in Free India. \nHis addresses at the Indian National Congress bears Subhas Chandra’s ideas on a comprehensive reconstruction of Free India. Bose wanted the states to adopt an elaborate scheme for gradually socialising the entire agricultural and industrial system in the spheres of both production and distribution. He also advocated the abolition of landlordism and liquidation of agricultural indebtedness. According to Netaji\, liberty broadly signified political\, economic and social freedom. For him\, economic freedom was the essence of social and political freedom. \nHowever\, if we look at today’s India and the happenings\, can we claim for sure that we have imbibed the great leader’s vision in its true essence? We are free constitutionally\, but are we really free at all? Is this the freedom our great freedom fighters like Bose envisioned for us? \nDepartment of Student Affairs is organising a webinar on the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to honour and recall his beliefs on freedom and Nation. Subsequently\, Prof K N Ganesh\, Director\, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER)\, Tirupati has been invited to deliver a talk during the seventh edition of the UDL series to be held on December 12\, 2020\, at 3 PM. \n\n\nEarlier in his career\, Prof K N Ganesh joined the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR)\, Hyderabad where he established India’s first microsynthesis DNA facility\, initiating a vigorous research programme to discover new motifs of DNA-protein interactions. Following which\, he relocated to National Chemical Laboratory (NCL-CSIR) where he was the Head of Organic Chemistry Division. Further\, he took charge as the first Director of the newly founded IISER\, Pune. \nProf K N Ganesh has made excellent research contributions in the field of nucleic acids\, focusing on therapeutic and diagnostic applications of DNA analogues\, structural biology of collagen peptides and the emerging area of DNA nanotechnology. He is internationally acclaimed for his pioneering contributions in designing the Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) analogues for effective cell permeation. \n\n\n\nDuring UDL07\, Prof K N Ganesh will be steering the audience through a lecture on “Pursuit of Excellence: Institution Building”. Completing his B.Tech. from IIT Kanpur\, and MS from Pennsylvania State University\, Prof Sharma moved to the State University of New York to pursue his PhD. During his stint at IIT\, Kanpur\, Prof Sharma held important positions such as Professor\, Institute Chair Professor\, Head – Chemical Engineering\, and Founding Coordinator – Nanosciences Center and Advanced Imaging Center. Prof Sharma’s engagement in interdisciplinary research spans across a wide spectrum involving nanotechnology\, biomaterials\, environment\, and health. Being associated with DST since 2015\, Prof Sharma has been instrumental in introducing several new programmes pertaining to infrastructure\, human capacity building\, innovation\, advanced manufacturing\, waste processing\, clean energy\, and many more. \n\n\nProf Sharma’s immense contribution in the field of science won him innumerable honours and awards including the inaugural Infosys Prize in Engineering and Computer Science\, TWAS Science Prize of the World Academy of Sciences\, Bessel Research Award of the Humboldt Foundation\, J C Bose Fellowship\, SS Bhatnagar Prize\, Homi J Bhabha Award of UGC\, The Syed Husain Zaheer Medal\, Meghnad Saha Medal of INSA\, Distinguished Alumni Awards of IIT Kanpur and SUNY Buffalo\, Firodia Award\, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Science Congress\, and several Doctor of Science honoris causa from SUNY Buffalo\, as well as Jadavpur University. Dr Sridharan R researched on “Efficient placement of VMs and containers on cloud and edge resources” to obtain his Doctorate in Mathematics. In his career spanning over 25 years\, his portfolio of research domains includes correctness Debugger and Profilers for Parallel and Distributed computing\, as well as Grid and Cloud computing. Further\, his current research interest involves Cloud Computing and Quantum Computing. Quantum computing is the use of quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement to perform computation. Capable of moving both backward and forward in time\, quantum particles can exist in two places at the same time and even ‘teleport’.
