SUMMARY:Resonating Ideology: Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur re-evaluating Bose in the present era
DESCRIPTION:Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is nationwide revered as a legendary figure of the Indian National Movement. A study of his biography unfolds his unflagging zeal\, as a leader and motivator. His social\, economic\, and political concepts were formulated with the sole objective of India’s emancipation from the British rule of exploitation and oppression. He also thought about the reconstruction of Free India. \nAccording to Subhas Chandra Bose\, education was essential for character building and overall development of human life. Education unveils the internal discipline of mind and thoughts\, which in its turn produces external discipline of control of action or deeds. \nHe understood the need for female education and female emancipation- liberating from all shackles and artificial disabilities – social\, economic and political. Netaji Subhas Chandra was completely against of any discrimination on the grounds of caste\, race\, sex\, creed or wealth in Free India. \nHis addresses at the Indian National Congress bears Subhas Chandra’s ideas on a comprehensive reconstruction of Free India. Bose wanted the states to adopt an elaborate scheme for gradually socialising the entire agricultural and industrial system in the spheres of both production and distribution. He also advocated the abolition of landlordism and liquidation of agricultural indebtedness. According to Netaji\, liberty broadly signified political\, economic and social freedom. For him\, economic freedom was the essence of social and political freedom. \nHowever\, if we look at today’s India and the happenings\, can we claim for sure that we have imbibed the great leader’s vision in its true essence? We are free constitutionally\, but are we really free at all? Is this the freedom our great freedom fighters like Bose envisioned for us? \nDepartment of Student Affairs is organising a webinar on the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to honour and recall his beliefs on freedom and Nation. Dr Ram Kulesh Thakur will be talking on “Am I Free? Re-Contextualising Subhas Chandra Bose in the Present Era.” Dr Thakur is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English. DESCRIPTION:On the eve of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda\, Department of Student Affairs\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh presents a Poetry Competition on January 12\, 2021\, at 2 PM. Being a spiritual leader and a reformer in India\, Swami Vivekananda has perpetually inspired the youth\, marking January 12\, 2021\, as the National Youth Day. During this contest\, the participants will be remembering the remarkable contributions of Swami Vivekananda by reciting at least 20 lines of any poem written by the icon. In addition\, the contestants are encouraged to encapsulate the poem in a few words for a clear depiction of the intriguing message presented by Swami Ji. The winner of the competition will receive goodies worth Rs 750 and the runner up will be awarded the second prize comprising of gifts worth Rs 500. Subsequently\, Prof K N Ganesh\, Director\, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER)\, Tirupati has been invited to deliver a talk during the seventh edition of the UDL series to be held on December 12\, 2020\, at 3 PM. \n\n\nEarlier in his career\, Prof K N Ganesh joined the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR)\, Hyderabad where he established India’s first microsynthesis DNA facility\, initiating a vigorous research programme to discover new motifs of DNA-protein interactions. Further\, he took charge as the first Director of the newly founded IISER\, Pune. \nProf K N Ganesh has made excellent research contributions in the field of nucleic acids\, focusing on therapeutic and diagnostic applications of DNA analogues\, structural biology of collagen peptides and the emerging area of DNA nanotechnology. He is internationally acclaimed for his pioneering contributions in designing the Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) analogues for effective cell permeation. \n\n\n\nDuring UDL07\, Prof K N Ganesh will be steering the audience through a lecture on “Pursuit of Excellence: Institution Building”. Completing his B.Tech. from IIT Kanpur\, and MS from Pennsylvania State University\, Prof Sharma moved to the State University of New York to pursue his PhD. During his stint at IIT\, Kanpur\, Prof Sharma held important positions such as Professor\, Institute Chair Professor\, Head – Chemical Engineering\, and Founding Coordinator – Nanosciences Center and Advanced Imaging Center. Prof Sharma’s engagement in interdisciplinary research spans across a wide spectrum involving nanotechnology\, biomaterials\, environment\, and health. Being associated with DST since 2015\, Prof Sharma has been instrumental in introducing several new programmes pertaining to infrastructure\, human capacity building\, innovation\, advanced manufacturing\, waste processing\, clean energy\, and many more. \n\n\nProf Sharma’s immense contribution in the field of science won him innumerable honours and awards including the inaugural Infosys Prize in Engineering and Computer Science\, TWAS Science Prize of the World Academy of Sciences\, Bessel Research Award of the Humboldt Foundation\, J C Bose Fellowship\, SS Bhatnagar Prize\, Homi J Bhabha Award of UGC\, The Syed Husain Zaheer Medal\, Meghnad Saha Medal of INSA\, Distinguished Alumni Awards of IIT Kanpur and SUNY Buffalo\, Firodia Award\, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Science Congress\, and several Doctor of Science honoris causa from SUNY Buffalo\, as well as Jadavpur University. On November 21\, 2020\, at 5 PM\, Sourav Sanyal\, Miran Junaidi\, and Saurabh Ghanekar\, 4th year\, Department of Computer Science and Engineering will be narrating their tale of forming a start-up named oureye.ai. The young entrepreneurs developed an automated\, end-to-end video intelligence solution for enterprises to monitor surveillance camera recordings\, leveraging pre-existing CCTV-IP infrastructure. \nThe three brilliant students grabbed the opportunities provided by SRM AP and became an active member of the student-run technological club of SRM AP\, Next Tech Lab. Further\, they spent a semester at the University of California\, Berkeley as part of the Semester Abroad Programme to broaden their horizon of knowledge. Encouraged by the mentors and faculty\, the students participated in several international conferences and hackathons which kindled their interest in developing a platform that would provide practical solutions to real-life problems. \nDuring the session\, the students will share insights regarding their start-up. Also\, they will narrate the inspiring journey that commenced with their erudite experience at SRM AP\, which eventually enabled them to become young entrepreneurs. Their company generated a revenue of Rs. 1.7 million in the recent financial year.

Prof S Chandrasekhar joined CSIR-IICT as Scientist C and became the director in 2015. He has made significant contributions in diverse areas of organic chemistry with a special emphasis on chiral chemistry\, total synthesis of biologically active natural products and pharmaceutical products. Further\, he has received several accolades including the Eminent Scientist Award for contributions in the field of Chemistry from Telangana State Government in 2017\, CNR Rao National Prize for Chemical Research 2012\, CSIR Technology award 2014\, and Infosys prize in Chemical sciences 2014 for his contributions to synthetic organic chemistry. \n\n\nProf S Chandrasekhar has developed technologies for the synthesis of the latest anti-tuberculosis drug\, bedaquiline; anti-tumor and abortive drug\, misoprostol; anti-platelet molecule\, beraprost; antidepressive compound\, sertralin and drug for treatment of schizophrenia\, asenapine. Prof Budaraju Srinivasa Murty\, Director of Indian Institute of Technology\, Hyderabad\, will be adorning the webinar with his presence on November 7\, 2020\, at 3 p.m. Prof B SMurthy is an Indian metallurgist who has been awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2007\, the highest science award in India. Formerly\, he was the Head of the Department at Indian Institute of Technology\, Madras after being the Professor at Indian Institute of Technology\, Kharagpur. The celebrated scientist will be demonstrating how collaborative research will steer India towards achieving its dream of being Self Reliant by innovating technology through collective wisdom. \n\n\n\n\n
