SUMMARY:IDEA organises workshop on "Unleash the Leader in You"
DESCRIPTION:The Innovation\, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy (IDEA) of SRM University-AP is organising a workshop on “Unleash the Leader in You” on December 2\, 2020\, at 4 pm. Sri A Gopi Raja\, Founder\, Fopple Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is joining the workshop to share his journey with the budding leaders of tomorrow. Mr Udayan Bakshi\, Associate director-IDEA and Founder- Startup Emporio and Socio Impacto is the coordinator for the workshop. \nEvery Seed has the potential to become a huge tree\, sheltering thousands of lives. Similarly\, every student or a person has the potential to influence the world in a unique and impactful way\, through innovation (not necessarily technological) and leadership./p> \nJust like we do not take birth with language proficiency\, we learn it from our surroundings\, family\, and teachers. In the same way\, the spirit of leadership and innovation can be learnt\, the fire of passion can be ignited\, and this all is an outcome of the right combination of a situation (opportunities) and our own initiatives and attitude. \nToday we are privileged to interact with one such ‘hero’ who is fuelled with a passion for helping the poor farmers across the country\, and he has been instrumental in serving the community in his own unique ways. He was awarded and rewarded by several authorities nationally and internationally. The government of India and the state government of AP and other states have acknowledged his passionate work and contribution several times. \nSri Gopi Raja\, who is also popularly known as Drone Raja\, is a very admired personality in the state of Andhra Pradesh and slowly popularising across India\, serving thousands of farmers across India. \nFOPPLE meant the fourth apple that will revolutionise the agriculture sector in India. The first apple was Adam and Eve’s one\, the second one was Newton’s and the third belonged to Steve Job. This fourth one FOPPLE is from our country exclusively for the farming community. \nThere is scope for an innovative brain to bring a rapid change in the way we perform traditional farming\, announces GOPI RAJA the founder of FOPPLE TECHNOLOGIES PVT LTD. a start-up headquartered in Kankipadu\, Vijayawada\, Andhra Pradesh. The son of a farmer saw how his father’s health deteriorates after spraying fertilisers in their farms. He wanted to bestow an innovation upon him that would perform his duty without any side effects. This noble intention gave birth to the nation’s first agriculture drone\, a need of every farmer across the country. \nLet us get enriched with his experience\, passion\, expertise\, and his story\, which might ignite a few more passionate Gopi Rajas from the student community who can truly transform the society. \nProgramme Schedule: Please Click Here

SUMMARY:Dr Tathagata Sengupta to speak on 'Debt\, Mathematics and Education'.
DESCRIPTION:Department of Mathematics is organising the 16th edition of the “Departmental Weekly Seminar Series” on October 06\, 2021\, at 3 pm with Dr Tathagata Sengupta as the Chief Guest. Dr Tathagata Sengupta is from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education\, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and he is going to speak on ‘Debt\, Mathematics and Education’. \nThe talk is based on the ongoing work of Dr Sengupta\, where he and his collaborators deal with the sociological\, emotional and intellectual impacts of mechanical reproduction of formal knowledge systems – such as those based on mathematical models – in the service of economies of endless repetition and mass reproduction. Symbols and formalisms can carry over across different paradigms of human existence\, across both time and space\, without the underlying meanings and subtleties necessarily being carried along. Such nominalisation of meanings only gets exacerbated under systems of massive mechanical reproduction. Mathematical models particularly are not just mere vehicles of computation but play a paradigmatic role in the very realisation of today’s political economy – being endlessly used to reproduce social relations that suit the interests of power and capital. \nSpecifically\, Dr Sengupta and his team analyse a particular\, basic microfinance model that aims to mathematise and thus aid in the management of micro-lending businesses. They describe how such a model not only tries to construct particular social realities and certain kinds of financial ‘common sense’ as such but also how pre-existing normative common sense is likewise codified into the model itself. They argue how such mathematical models have no independent truth value outside of specific historic processes\, contexts and paradigms of public common sense – hoping that this allows us to fundamentally shift the culture of mathematical modelling in a way that respects such subtleties of human knowledge in their extremely rich\, dynamic\, plural\, communistic wisdom and creativity. \nDr Sengupta’s main attempt is to push the discussion not only out of the binaries of ‘good/bad models’ but also beyond rule-based rationalist imaginations of ethics into the mundane and emotional – and yet creative\, subtle and even magical – daily existence of ordinary people. Existence is marked by social relations of radical inequalities and radical unities. In particular\, this also opens up possible directions to pursue intellectually and in practice\, when it comes to the question of education. \nMathematics enthusiasts can avail this opportunity to listen to the captivating talk of Dr Tathagata Sengupta on October 06\, 2021 at 3 pm.

SUMMARY:Prof Ajay K Sood\, FRS delivered the University Distinguished Lecture 01
DESCRIPTION:Prof A K Sood on “Doing Science Without Borders”: Collaboration and curiosity among researchers will lead to impactful multidisciplinary solutions of the 21st century \nThe first University Distinguished Lecture on “Doing Science Without Borders” commenced with an inaugural welcome speech by Prof V S Rao\, Vice-Chancellor\, and Prof D Narayana Rao\, Pro-Vice-Chancellor\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh. Prof V S Rao expressed their gratitude to Prof Ajay K Sood for his gracious presence. Prof Narayana Rao emphasized that under the University Distinguished Lecture series\, the talks will be delivered by eminent scientists from India and abroad that would be of immense benefit for students and the faculty and researchers. He further mentioned\, “Doctors\, researchers\, engineers and scientists from several fields of knowledge around the world worked together to confront corona outbreak with an unprecedented spirit of collaboration. Also\, NEP advocates and emphasizes that the societal need of the 21st century require broad-based multidisciplinary research and education”. \nProf Ajay K Sood\, Fellow of the Royal Society\, FRS and Honorary Professor\, Indian Institute of Science (IISc)\, Bengaluru\, narrated three stories of his recent experiments and advanced research work\, namely “Emergent flocking behaviour seen in nature: Laboratory experiments”\, “Crystallization of Glass: Machine Learning in condensed matter Physics”\, and “Bacterial Nano Heat Engine: Getting bacteria to work”. He begins by stating that back in 1944\, a profound physicist Schrodinger introduced the concept of “aperiodic crystal” which led to the understanding of genetic molecules\, enunciating the importance of inter-disciplinary applications of scientific works. In his first narrative\, he speaks of the flocking movement among birds\, bacteria\, locusts\, and human beings as well. He brought the same experiment in his laboratory where he used 2 particles\, energized them\, and identified their flocking pattern. He observed that the velocity of movement between the two particles differ\, which can be applied to particle sorting. This experiment has applications in biology\, where bacteria and/or cells can be sorted and separated and also in autonomous cars. \nWhile explaining his second experiment\, Prof A K Sood mentioned that he studied the devitrification or the tendency of glass particles to crystallize over time to reach a state of stability from its metastable state. He used supervised Machine Learning to predict where crystallization will occur in glass. His team trained the system to identify the hard and soft particles of the glass. His experiments concluded that Machine Learning (ML) helps in identifying the soft particles\, which possess the tendency to move and crystallize over a long period of time. Further\, Prof A K Sood and his team of collaborators developed bacterial nano heat engines by mimicking the biological motors in our body which produces energy for living beings to function. Using bacterial activity\, they made heat engines and are advancing their research work to recognize the practical applications of the nano heat engines in cars\, batteries. The bacteria heat engines is a highly promising technology of the future. \nProf A K Sood narrated his laboratory stories to explicate the splendor of multidisciplinary research which can be used to solve basic problems. He said\, “The key to successful scientific research is to collaborate with experts beyond their own domain. Communication and appreciation of views of an open mind enable the scientists to understand the various phenomena. Students and researchers should be curious which will lead to research having various interdisciplinary applications that will make an impact across various domains.” \nAbout thousand participants from IISc\,IITs\, NITs\,IIITs\, IISERs\, several Indian Universities including University of Hyderabad\, Delhi University\, NEHU\, Pondicherry University\, Punjab University; a few foreign Universities including KAUST\, Saudi Arabia\, Nagoya University\, Japan\, Zhejiang Ocean University\, China\, Teesside University\, UK\, several Engineering Colleges; National Laboratories of DST\, DBT\, CSIR\, ISRO\, DRDO\, ICMR\, BARC\, JNCASR\, ARIES\, ARCI; industries including ARBL\, Tata Steel have attended the distinguished lecture given by Prof Ajay Sood.
