Celebrated IPL and Ranji Trophy player\, Mr Kalyana Krishna Doddapaneni\, will deliver a special talk to inspire and motivate students on August 29\, 2021\, at 05.00 pm. \nMr Doddapaneni played in the Indian Premier League during the years of 2008-09 for the Deccan Chargers team. Prior to that\, he played in the Andhra Ranji Cricket Team for 10 years and bagged 200+ first-class wickets. He has also played in vital tournaments such a Duleep and Deodhar Trophies. Mr Doddapaneni is currently working as a leading commentator for Start Sports. He is also the chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee\, Andhra Cricket Association. He has further established KK Global Cricket Academy in Andhra Pradesh with state-of-the-art facilities to promote cricket. \nSports are a crucial part of a student’s holistic growth and development. Games and sports provide great help in the development of mental health and physical fitness of the body. Ms Ragini Mathur\, one of the dedicated trainers of Heartfulness Institute\, will enlighten the students on “Refresh (Organizing the Mind)”. \nMs Ragini Mathur started her career as a Government teacher. She later got selected in Central Railways in RE Project. She secured promotion and became Divisional Railway Manager for the Bhopal Region. After taking voluntary retirement from Railway Services\, she worked as an Administrative Office Superintendent. She joined Heartfulness Institute more the two and half decades ago and became a trainer in 2011. The versatile Ms Mathur has also worked as a radio jockey and a casual announcer for Yuvvani Programme in Akashvani. DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of Independence Day\, Prof. V. S. Rao\, Vice-Chancellor hoisted the national flag and addressed the employees and students. During his address\, Prof V. S. Rao remembered our freedom fighters and emphasized on how non-violence freedom struggle set an example for the entire world to imbibe. He further urged everyone to dedicate ourselves to the nation by contributing in advancement of science and technology\, especially in the domain of Information Technology\, healthcare\, nutrition\, and agriculture. Dr. D. Gunasekaran\, Registrar\, Wg Cmdr Venkataachalam Sekkappan\, Director-CLM\, Ms. Revathi Balakrishnan\, Assistant Director-Student Affairs and others participated in the ceremony. \nPh.D. students of SRM AP\, D. Lenin babu and Yarramsetti Saisrinu who nobly served the needy during the pandemic were praised by Prof. V. S. Rao and Dr. D. Gunasekaran. Dr. Smita Sharma\, Student Counsellor\, SRM AP will be delivering a talk and interacting with the audience during the session to be held on 12th August \, 2020 at 5pm. \nINCLUSION OF POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH SKILL BUILDING “WELL-BEING” PROGRAM IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS \nStudent life is one of the most important phases of life. In this phase\, students are on a journey to discover themselves personally and professionally as well. To understand and discover the potentialities\, there is first a need to understand self – How the mind works and processes information? How to deal with life’s challenges? How to bounce back in times of adversities? How to make use of opportunities… how to empower and enable oneself to move towards a flourishing life? How to deal with failures? How to celebrate success? \nImportance of Well-Being in Educational Institutions \nHistorically educational institutions have aimed for academic excellence as sole evidence for their success. Now\, there are growing numbers of educational institutions who are now acknowledging the need to develop students in a more holistic way\, with a stronger focus on well-being. Much of this is in recognition of the increasing statistics on psychological distress and mental illness in young adults\, and the realization of the need to take a more proactive rather than reactive approach to mental health. \n‘Well-Being Program’ based on positive psychology and positive education for educational institutions will act as an antidote to the complex emotions college students are exposed to especially in the present circumstances. \nWell-Being: Well-being is an individual’s experience of satisfaction with the ‘past’\, contentment with the ‘present ‘and hope for the ‘future ‘. The scientific construct of subjective well-being can be defined as both a cognitive and affective self-evaluation of one’s life and experiences. \nWell-Being through the Scientific Study of Positive Psychology \nPositive Psychology is a scientific approach to studying human thoughts\, feelings and behavior\, with a focus on strengths instead of weaknesses\, building the good in life instead of repairing the bad\, and taking the lives of average people up to “great” instead of focusing solely on moving those who are struggling up to “normal”. As a field\, positive psychology spends much of its time thinking about topics like character strengths\, optimism\, life satisfaction\, happiness\, well-being\, gratitude\, compassion (as well as self-compassion)\, self-esteem and self- confidence\, hope and elevation. These topics are studied in order to learn how to help people flourish and live their best lives. \nWell-Being and Happiness \nHappiness is “people’s evaluations of their lives and encompasses both cognitive judgments of satisfaction and affective appraisals of moods and emotions” (Kesebir & Diener\, 2008). It is the experience of joy\, contentment\, or positive well-being\, combined with a sense that one’s life is good\, meaningful and worthwhile. \nWell-being and Neuroplasticity \nThe ability of the brain to reorganize itself\, both physically and functionally\, throughout the life due to an individual’s environment\, behavior\, thinking\, and emotions is called Neuroplasticity. It is important to understand that we have the opportunity to take more responsibility for the intentional shaping of our own minds and through that\, we can shape our brains in ways that would enable fundamental constituents of wellbeing to be strengthened. \nWELL-BEING PROGRAM \nWell-being & Young Adults \nIntroducing Well-being in colleges aids students in developing positive self-perceptions and adaptive thinking styles\, learning to set constructive goals and make healthy future predictions\, and building skills to help manage emotions and cope with difficulty. Prof Rajkumar Buyya\, Director at Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Lab\, University of Melbourne\, Australia will be the keynote speaker of this session on emerging fields of Computer Science. \nThe keynote presentation will cover (a) 21st-century vision of computing and identifies various IT paradigms promising to deliver the vision of computing utilities; (b) innovative architecture for creating elastic Clouds integrating edge resources and managed Clouds\, (c) Aneka 5G\, a Cloud Application Platform\, for rapid development of Cloud/Big Data applications and their deployment on private/public Clouds with resource provisioning driven by SLAs\, (d) a novel FogBus software framework with Blockchain-based data-integrity management for facilitating end-to-end IoT-Fog/Edge-Cloud integration for execution of sensitive IoT applications\, (e) experimental results on deploying Cloud and Big Data/IoT applications in engineering\, and health care (e.g.\, COVID-19)\, deep learning/Artificial intelligence (AI)\, satellite image processing\, natural language processing (mining COVID-19 research literature for new insights)and smart cities on elastic Clouds; and (f) directions for delivering our 21st-century vision along with pathways for future research in Cloud and Edge/Fog computing. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr Buyya is the founder and CEO of Manjrasoft\, a spin-off firm of the University of Melbourne that commercialises the university’s cloud computing inventions. From 2012 to 2016\, he was a Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council. He has over 625 publications and seven textbooks to his credit\, including “Mastering Cloud Computing\,” which was published by McGraw Hill\, China Machine Press\, and Morgan Kaufmann for the Indian\, Chinese\, and international markets. He also edited numerous publications\, including “Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms” and “Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms” (Wiley Press\, USA\, Feb 2011). The Microsoft Academic Search Index ranked Dr Buyya as the #1 author in the world (2005-2016) for both field rating and citation evaluations in the area of Distributed and Parallel Computing. Dr Buyya was named the World’s Top-Cited (#1) Author and the World’s Most-Productive (#1) Author in Cloud Computing by German scientists in “A Scientometric Analysis of Cloud Computing Literature.” He has been named a “2016 Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher” by Thomson Reuters\, as well as a Fellow of IEEE and Scopus Researcher of the Year 2017 with Elsevier’s Excellence in Innovative Research Award. He founded the IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing and served as its first Editor-in-Chief.
