She is a highly reputed theoretical Physicist and has a great passion for ‘writing of Research Articles’. Prof Shobhana did her MSc in physics from IIT Bombay\, and her Ph.D. from Harvard University. Since 1996 she has been the faculty of the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research\, Bengaluru\, where she is a Professor in the Theoretical Sciences Unit.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at SRM University-AP is organising the first session of the Distinguished Lecture Series on the topic “Neoteric Frontiers in Cloud and Edge Computing” on July 21\, 2021\, Wednesday at 10.00 am. Prof Rajkumar Buyya\, Director at Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Lab\, University of Melbourne\, Australia will be the keynote speaker of this session on emerging fields of Computer Science. \nThe keynote presentation will cover (a) 21st-century vision of computing and identifies various IT paradigms promising to deliver the vision of computing utilities; (b) innovative architecture for creating elastic Clouds integrating edge resources and managed Clouds\, (c) Aneka 5G\, a Cloud Application Platform\, for rapid development of Cloud/Big Data applications and their deployment on private/public Clouds with resource provisioning driven by SLAs\, (d) a novel FogBus software framework with Blockchain-based data-integrity management for facilitating end-to-end IoT-Fog/Edge-Cloud integration for execution of sensitive IoT applications\, (e) experimental results on deploying Cloud and Big Data/IoT applications in engineering\, and health care (e.g.\, COVID-19)\, deep learning/Artificial intelligence (AI)\, satellite image processing\, natural language processing (mining COVID-19 research literature for new insights)and smart cities on elastic Clouds; and (f) directions for delivering our 21st-century vision along with pathways for future research in Cloud and Edge/Fog computing. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr Buyya is the founder and CEO of Manjrasoft\, a spin-off firm of the University of Melbourne that commercialises the university’s cloud computing inventions. From 2012 to 2016\, he was a Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council. He has over 625 publications and seven textbooks to his credit\, including “Mastering Cloud Computing\,” which was published by McGraw Hill\, China Machine Press\, and Morgan Kaufmann for the Indian\, Chinese\, and international markets. He also edited numerous publications\, including “Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms” and “Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms” (Wiley Press\, USA\, Feb 2011). The Microsoft Academic Search Index ranked Dr Buyya as the #1 author in the world (2005-2016) for both field rating and citation evaluations in the area of Distributed and Parallel Computing. Dr Buyya was named the World’s Top-Cited (#1) Author and the World’s Most-Productive (#1) Author in Cloud Computing by German scientists in “A Scientometric Analysis of Cloud Computing Literature.” He has been named a “2016 Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher” by Thomson Reuters\, as well as a Fellow of IEEE and Scopus Researcher of the Year 2017 with Elsevier’s Excellence in Innovative Research Award. He founded the IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing and served as its first Editor-in-Chief. DESCRIPTION:The Directorate of Student Affairs at SRM University-AP organised a session titled Speak Your Heart (The Happiness Trip) on June 29\, 2020. The talk explored the understanding of Happiness and decoded the multiple ways of achieving and retaining it. Dr Nappinnai Seran\, Professor\, Department of Psychiatry at Meenakshi Medical College delivered the talk. Dr Seran is also a renowned psychologist and Marital  Therapist. \nThe session tackled the idea that people need to strive for a happier and more fulfilling life. It busted the misconception that momentary happiness is insignificant. Dr Seran\, a leading expert on the subject\, shared invaluable insights on how to achieve true happiness and maintain it. Attendees were given a unique opportunity to learn about the complexities of the Happiness Trap and how to avoid it.  \nDr  Nappinnai Seran’s expertise allowed the students an opportunity to imbibe and navigate the challenges related to happiness and well-being. The interactive nature of the session encourages active participation and the exchange of ideas. Dr Nappinnai Seran’s ability to seamlessly blend professional expertise with relatable anecdotes resonated strongly with the audience. The interactive nature of the session\, especially the Q&A segment\, facilitated a direct connection between Dr Seran and the students\, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding.

DESCRIPTION:Chemistry is often called the “CENTRAL SCIENCE” as it plays a pivotal role in all aspects of physical and biological sciences\, including engineering\, agriculture\, medicine\, and allied health disciplines. Department of Chemistry\, SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh organizes a webinar titled “Chemistry is every day’s science” on 26 th June 2020 from 11.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. The session will provide high school students with opportunities to learn and interact with young faculty members who are genuinely passionate about chemistry. The webinar will illustrate the essentiality of chemistry in everyday life\, and how its importance can ignite an interest in many young students to pursue a career in science. \n \n\n\n\nSolutions of Semiconductor nanocrystals emitting visible colours\n\nDr. Nimai Mishra\, will be initiating the webinar as the first speaker. In the 30-minute duration of his talk beginning at 11 a.m.\, Dr. Mishra will be giving a speech on “Chemistry of Semiconductor Nanoparticles: Laboratory to Display Industries (TV and LEDs).” Semiconductor nanocrystals are tiny light-emitting particles on the nanometer scale\, having optical and electronic properties that differ from larger particles due to quantum mechanics. Nanoparticles can be made in the Chemistry laboratory with the help of some simple chemical reactions. These semiconductor nanocrystals are valued for displays because they emit pure light\, which can be used in electrical appliances (TV and LEDs) with visibly more accurate colours. In the talk\, Dr. Mishra will discuss how simple Chemistry in the laboratory can contribute to making modern electrical appliances. \n\n\n\n\nPresently (from November 2017)\, Dr. Mishra is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh. Before joining SRM-AP\, he worked as a postdoctoral research scientist in the Department of Nanochemistry at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Genova\, Italy. Prior to that\, Dr. Mishra completed three years (April 2013 –June 2016) as a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)\, USA. Dr. Mishra received his Ph.D. degree in March 2013 from the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS)\, Singapore\, and completed his M.Sc. in Chemistry from IIT-Madras. \n\n\nPlease view his detailed profile here: Dr Nimai Mishra\n\n\n\n \nPrehistoric times engineered ceramics \n\n\nDr. Pardha Saradhi will begin his half an hour talk from 11.30 am. His speech will encompass “Chemistry of Ceramics and its Applications to Aerospace Industry.” Ceramics is one of the most ancient industries which has its roots going back thousands of years. Ceramics is a very general phrase; it includes a wide variety of materials that covers from decorative pottery to the aviation industry. Ceramics possess unique features and are identified by their properties such as high hardness\, brittleness\, chemical stability\, and low thermal conductivity. After World War II\, ceramics and glass have contributed to the growth of many technologically advanced fields\, including electronics\, optoelectronics\, medical\, energy\, automotive\, aerospace\, and space exploration. The scheduled talk of Dr. Pardha Saradhi will focus on various ceramic materials and the chemistry behind making lightweight and high strength ceramics for the Aviation industry. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Maram Pardha Saradhi received a Ph.D. in Solid State Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry\, Indian Institute of Technology\, Madras. After postdoctoral work at the University of California\, Dr. Pardha Saradhi moved to a catalyst industry where he headed diesel oxidation in the catalyst division. Later\, he joined as the faculty in Chemistry at SRM University-AP\, Andhra Pradesh. His research interests include Environment protection and Energy Conversion relating microscopic features of structure and bonding to macroscopic thermodynamic behaviour in complex functional materials. DESCRIPTION:The International Yoga Day on June 21\, 2020\, was held online and attended by more than 100 students and faculty members. The event aimed to spread the message of Vasudeva Kutubakam\, which means “One Earth\, One Family\, One Future.” Despite the physical distance\, the event highlighted the unity and interdependence of humanity and the planet. \nThe observance of Yoga Day provided a much-needed respite from the harsh reality of death and disease during the pandemic. By merging technology and ancient wisdom\, the participants were able to achieve a balance between physical and mental well-being.
