SUMMARY:Build a long-term career plan\, youth told
DESCRIPTION:Guntur MP Jayadev Galla exhorted the youth to figure out what they plan to do at least in the next two decades to position themselves accordingly now itself and to be prepared to enter the real world from the comfort of their homes where their parents would not be around to take care of them. \n \n“The transition from school to college and then to actual career-building will not be as fair\, nice and safe as you might expect\, particularly at a time when the world is rapidly moving towards a greater degree of automation with each passing day. You should quickly adapt to the changing times in order to match up to the tasks”\, he asserted. \nParticipating as chief guest in the inaugural function of SRM University-A.P.’s 1st Cultural Fest-2018 on its premises here on Thursday\, Mr. Jayadev emphasised on the need to have a long-term vision for their future. Career options at hand should be evaluated from time to time to make the necessary course corrections\, Mr. Jayadev said. \nNevertheless\, planning should start at the early stages so as to seize the opportunities as and when they come\, Mr. Jayadev said and insisted that the youngsters should keep learning to be productively engaged with society. \nMr. Jayadev narrated how he moved from a course in chemical engineering and then electrical and to political science\, all in the United States of America where his parents shifted to when he was aged four\, and a challenging role he donned in Amara Raja Batteries and the way he learnt the intricacies of politics\, in which he got to make his mark of 42 years of work experience. \nSRM University A.P. Pro Vice-Chancellor D. Narayana Rao said the university was gearing up to expand its reach to 25\,000 students in a decade and that it concentrated on research\, which was a big differentiator between his institution and the State-funded universities. He thanked the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for extending an invitation to the SRM University to set up its campus in Amaravati and took pride in the fact that its construction was completed in barely six months. \nSRM University-A.P. Registrar D. Gunasekaran\, Deputy Registrar Siva Kumar\, event convenors Srabani Basu and Anil K. Suresh were present. \n

SUMMARY:"High Performance Computer Cluster" by Dr.Ranjit Thapa\, SRM Research Institute
DESCRIPTION:Date: November 22\, 2017 \nDr. Ranjit Thapa\, Associate Professor from SRM Research Institute\, SRM University in his lecture on 22nd November 2017 introduces the development and need of supercomputers. He explained how the supercomputers are different from a general-purpose computer in respect of computational capacity. He explained how the scientific problems in different length scale and time scale can be solved via simulation in the computer clusters. He introduces how we can do simulation for energy management system for Hydrogen train and also how we can predict the behaviour of electron and atoms inside the materials. Shortly\, in current date simulations can provide a fast way to screen the suitable materials and predict the performance of devices in a cost-effective way. SRM University has set up a supercomputer center equipped with servers contain 1870 cores and 16 TB of RAM to execute and solve the scientific problems (http://mysrm.srmuniv.ac.in/hpcc/). He also explained that in the emerging field of knowledge (data) based discovery of materials; the descriptor based approach has proven to be quite powerful in the design of new materials as well as obtaining insights into the chemical mechanisms. Within first-principles density functional theory\, his group proposes new electronic structure based descriptor defined as a simple function of (i) the pz occupancy (considering occupied sates) and (ii) the contribution to the density of states at the Fermi Level from pz orbital of an active site of doped graphene. Lastly\, he concluded with the note that “there are lots of job opportunities in the area of supercomputers and scientific computing and it is open for every student”.
