DESCRIPTION:The Department of Literature and Languages is holding a virtual guest talk on Caste of Partition: Understanding Bengali Dalit Literature. The talk will be delivered virtually by Dr Mrinmoy Pramanick\, recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Award\, 2023. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr Mrinmoy Pramanick is a distinguished academic and a notable figure in the field of translation studies. He was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize in 2023 for his exceptional work in Dalit Nandantattwa\, a significant work by Marathi author Sharan Kumar Limbale\, titled “Dalit Sahityache Soundarjyashastra.” Currently\, he serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Comparative Indian Language and Literature at the University of Calcutta. In addition to his career as a teacher\, Dr Pramanick is the founder coordinator of the Centre for Translation and Literary Geography. \nAn alumnus of the University of Hyderabad\, his scholarly interests extend to translation studies\, the politics of language\, caste\, and the intricacies of the diaspora. SUMMARY:Guest Talk on the Science of Art
DESCRIPTION:The Department of History is hosting a guest lecture titled “The Science of Art: Tracing Technological Perspectives in Art and Archaeology.” lecture will be delivered by Prof. Satish C. Pandey\, Professor of Art & Heritage Conservation at the Indian Institute of Heritage (formerly National Museum Institute)\, India. The lecture will focus on the impact of technological advancements on artistic practices and archaeological endeavors. \nAbout the Speaker: \nProf. Satish Pandey is the Professor & Head – Department of Art Conservation\nIndian Institute of Heritage\, Ministry of Culture\, Government of India\, as well as the\nVice Chair of the Directory Board International Council of Museums Conservation Committee (ICOM-CC) Paris\, France. He is an art conservator with major interests in heritage science and conservation. His research focuses on the decay mechanisms of inorganic materials (environmental\, chemical\, and bio-geochemical processes) and developing sustainable conservation methodologies and approaches. At present\, he is an assistant professor of art conservation at the National Museum Institute in New Delhi. Prof. Satish obtained his MA in Art Conservation from the National Museum Institute\, New Delhi (2001) followed by an MSc (2005) and a DPhil (2010) in Archaeological Science from the University of Oxford. His DPhil research focused on the mechanisms of transport and distribution of soluble salts in historic sandstone buildings. He was an AHRC & EPSRC Science and Heritage programme postdoctoral fellow at the Courtauld Institute of Art\, London on a project entitled ‘Salts and synthetic coatings on wall paintings: characterising their transformation\, interaction and contribution to deterioration’. Satish was also a US-ICOMOS visiting researcher at NCPTT\, Natchitoches\, LA\, and a visiting research fellow at the School of Geography and the Environment\, University of Oxford. Currently\, he also serves as the Chairman of the Academic Council of Heritage Academy at the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage\, New Delhi. \nAll interested students can attend this informative session\, which promises to provide valuable insights into the dynamic interplay between art and science.

Varshney\, esteemed professor\, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science\, College of Engineering & Science\, Syracuse University. \nHear from the seasoned academician on the mesmerizing phenomenon of distributed inference. \nAbstract \nDistributed inference refers to the synergistic combination of information gathered by various knowledge sources and sensors to provide inference regarding a phenomenon of interest. This fascinating field has evolved over the past four decades and is being applied to a wide variety of fields\, such as military command and control\, robotics\, image processing\, air traffic control\, medical diagnostics\, pattern recognition\, environmental monitoring\, IoT and smart cities. \nThis talk will present an overview of the field\, present some recent research results\, illustrate its utility by means of some examples and conclude with some open problems. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Economics is hosting a special lecture on The Future of Migration by the distinguished visiting faculty Prof S Irudaya Rajan. The lecture will explore the future of migration\, analysing its economic implications and developmental impacts. The lecture will also offer insight into the evolving migration patterns and their role in transforming India’s demographic shifts and growth trajectory. \nAbout the Speaker: \nProf. S. Irudaya Rajan is a renowned demographer and migration expert\, currently serving as Chairman of the International Institute of Migration and Development (IIMAD) in Kerala\, India. Prior to this\, he was a Professor at the Centre for Development Studies. He is the Founder Editor in Chief of Migration and Development (Sage) and the editor of two Routledge series – India Migration Report and South Asia Migration Report. He has coordinated nine large-scale migration surveys in Kerala since 1998 (with K.C. Zachariah) and replicated the Kerala model of migration surveys in other states\, including Goa (2008)\, Punjab (2009)\, Tamil Nadu (2015)\, and Odisha (2023) and has been instrumental in similar surveys in Gujarat (2011)\, and Jharkhand (2023).
